SUMMARIES Denis Artamonov, Sophia Tikhonova (Saratov) Cats in the network memology: macrocode or sign the register? The article deals with a large-scale (and the most popular) group of network memes - #cats. Viral videos with cats regularly capture the widest customer segments, statistics of cats-content is always higher than any other type of messages. Cats-content is the basis of cultural exchange in the informal communication network and is associated with a developed mythology. Network cult of cats is inextricably linked to the recreational mission of the Internet and useless activities in the network, blocking censorship. It provides a stream of anonymous Internet subculture (cats in meme speak the language of padonki or kitty pidgin, lolspeak), attaching to it poorly incorporated users. Cats-content is a key symbolic resource of humor of an 18-, bringing together different generations of Internet users and forming socially acceptable courtship practices. However, the cats not only are the universal network of the macrocode, memes cat serve pragmatic agenda, ensuring the production of collective assessments. The complex of emotions and symbols transmitted by them is stable and suitable for quick reading. The authors show how cats perform the function of the sign of the register when their appearance in memes softens the attitude to the situation or emphasizes its absurdity. Galina Belyaeva, Vadim Mikhailin (Saratov) At the Brink of the Elements: Pidgeonhole/Aquarium as a Private Space and as a Portal to Freedom A pidgeonhole as well as an aquarium is quite frequent
in Soviet films of different epoques and styles: and almost invariably rich in symbolism concerning characters, their modes of being and the spaces they inhabit. The authors offer an interpretation of those signals (mostly propoganda-loaden) that these objects are meant to pass to the films audiences. 275
Grigoriy Drobinin (Samara) We are all a big pack of pottery dogs : beast images in autodescriptive texts of home rockers The subject of this research is self-descriptive texts of Russian rock, in which various rock-poets attempt to assess their own activities, the condition of the rock community. According to our definition self-descriptive texts include study are rock manifests, and other song texts with a more private and personalized form of speech, in which authors reflect on the problems of their own career (thus, the texts of Yu. Shevchuk, E. Shklyarskiy, K. Kinchev, A. Grigoryan, E. Margulis and others). The article analyzes the changing manner of self-description of rock musicians. These changes include the beast images with which rock poets identified themselves. At first in the 1980s and early 1990s rockers often presented themselves as a young pack of wolves or hunting dogs. During the 2000s rockers return to wolf-dog connotations, but it is about lonely old wolves, dogs and sometimes bears. The abundance of wolf and dog images in rock texts shows us the hedonistic and heroic orientation of rock communities, which uses attributes of closed male military communities, building their identity. Vadim Mikhailin (Saratov) Late Soviet zoomorphic jokes Telling jokes (anekdoty) used to be one of the favourite and most common communication practices in Soviet Union since mid-century. This practice changed from decade to decade in what concerned main anekdote genres used, the frequency of certain characters etc., but remained intact from the point of view of its pragmatic
aspects - including not only the intertainment itself but also the reconnaissance of the public of one s own . From this point of view a study of changes in anekdote-telling could be helpful in understanding those subtle shifts that occured in Soviet culture at the level of grassroots. One of the most common anekdote genres - zoomorphic one - took to rather a drastic transformation at the brink of 1960s and 1970s, developing not only a new set of characters but also some radically novel styles of humour. The author tries to find a key to this change - as well as a set of those texts (mainly the animation films) that were used as sources for those plots and trends analysed. 276
Elena Savenkova (Samara) Something about beasties , both cute and not really cute. Transformation of horrible things in children’s perception The article probes markers of horrible things in children perception. Children’s inability to portray a horrible beast in their drawings is analyzed. We study semantic field that constitute the representation of a beast in experience of children. Depiction of wolves in Soviet and Russian cartoons is used as an example of how a representation of a horrible beast is transformed into a cute and harmless representation of a beastie. We conclude that if an experience of meeting a horrible
beast is lost and is replaced by an experience of meeting such a beastie, than an opportunity to deal with and to cope with many fears, including the fear of death, is denied. Tatjana Savitskaya (Saratov) Eagle, dove, lion as elements of heraldry on the German stoneware of the XIX century. Collection of the Radishchev Art Museum in Saratov The article focuses on fantasy coats of arms on 4 German stoneware jugs from the 19th century from the collection of the Radishchev Museum, amongst which the eagle, lion and dove are identified. In Germany, the XIX century took place under the banner of the national idea, it is reflected in art. The Germans considered themselves the heirs of the Sacrum Imperium Romanům. The single277
headed eagle was of special interest as a sign of relevance (its image is close to the Germany Imperial coat of arms in 1871-1918) and as an additional argument for the dating. The eagle and the lion as heraldic elements reflect the Imperial ambitions of the Germans. The combination of eagle-dove means that service to the nation should be the highest service for the German, followed by the duty to family and home. In General, all these elements are needed to awaken the national spirit. Olga Togoeva (Moscou) Marine Le Pen - the heroine of the Middle Ages The article is devoted to the analysis of modern political cartoons of the leader of the far-right French party National front , Marine Le Pen. The author concludes that many of these pictures are based on medieval images and legends, including the use of animal images. The artists willingly use both stories from medieval annals and chronicles (stories of Joan of Arc or Vercingétorix) and folklore motifs (the tale of Little Red Riding Hood) in order to fill the image of Marine Le Pen with a variety of unambiguous negative connotations. Artyom Zorin (Saratov) Rus -Troyka-Bird. Horse-powers as a marker of social status in Russian classic literature During the whole 18th century there was formed the road legislative basement which reflected all the movements by the main routes between the Russian regions. It stated the conditions of receiving the certain amount of horses at the post stations according to the social status and position of the wayfarer. The article suggests taking into account these historic details as well as
the nowadays idea of transport while analyzing the plot and the characters of the Russian classics - A. S. Pushkin, N. V. Gogol, N. A. Nekrasov and others. This thought is presented in details on the example of the A. S. Pushkin s The Stationmaster . 278
