Zusammenfassung: | "Despite their promise not to involve Egypt in the war effort, Britain ended up bringing about half a million Egyptian men, predominantly from rural communities, into the Egyptian Labor Corps (ELC), which worked across Europe and the Middle East during World War I. The ELC performed tasks such as loading and unloading ships in France, running camel supply lines in Syria and Palestine, and building railroads across the Sinai Desert. Despite their enormous contributions to the war effort and the creation of infrastructures that lasted long after the war, the ELC, along with other "coloured" labor forces from colonized areas, were rarely recognized or commemorated in any official capacity, with the bulk of the attention going to the white solders. Scholars have only just started to pay attention to non-white laborers and soldiers during that war, and Anderson adds to this effort through his study of the ELC, culminating in the role of these dissatisfied rural workers in the revolution of 1919, which eventually led to Egypt's independence"-- |

Scholars have only just started to pay attention to non-white laborers and soldiers during that war, and Anderson adds to this effort through his study of the ELC, culminating in the role of these dissatisfied rural workers in the revolution of 1919, which eventually led to Egypt's independence"-- Einsatz (DE-588)4296704-1 gnd rswk-swf Ägypter (DE-588)4084746-9 gnd rswk-swf Gruppenidentität (DE-588)4140349-6 gnd rswk-swf Erster Weltkrieg (DE-588)4079163-4 gnd rswk-swf Armee (DE-588)4143024-4 gnd rswk-swf Soldat (DE-588)4055409-0 gnd rswk-swf Minderheit (DE-588)4752223-9 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf Great Britain / Army / Labour Corps / Minorities / History Great Britain / Army / Labour Corps / Minorities / Social conditions / History World War, 1914-1918 / Conscript labor / Social aspects / Egypt Egyptians / Race identity / History World War, 1914-1918 / Campaigns / Palestine World War, 1914-1918 / Campaigns / Egypt / Sinai HISTORY / Middle East / Egypt (see also Ancient / Egypt) Great Britain / Army / Labour Corps Armed Forces / Minorities Military campaigns Egypt Egypt / Sinai Middle East / Palestine 1914-1918 History Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g Armee (DE-588)4143024-4 s Ägypter (DE-588)4084746-9 s Soldat (DE-588)4055409-0 s Minderheit (DE-588)4752223-9 s Gruppenidentität (DE-588)4140349-6 s Erster Weltkrieg (DE-588)4079163-4 s Einsatz (DE-588)4296704-1 s DE-604 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, pdf 978-1-4773-2455-4 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, epub 978-1-4773-2456-1 Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=033236288&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis |
