Remembering Histories of Trauma compares and Links pubİic representations of the HoLocaust and North American genocide to show how they have often obscured the events of which they are supposed to be the reminder. Using source material· from both sides of the Atlantic, it examines the differences between ancestral· experiences of genocide and the representation of those histories in pubİic sites in the United States, Canada, and Europe. It chal·Lenges the ways publ·lc bodies have used those histories to frame the cultural· and po Utical· identity of regions, states, and nations. By highlighting shared critiques of pubİic memory, Mailer seeks to transcend historical· tensions between Native American studies, First Nations studies, and Holocaust studies. Bringing those areas into conversation with early American history and museum studies, this book provides a new framework to better understand and correct the divergence between traumatic histories and the ways they are memoriaİized. |
