SUMMARY Book «Examinations of the war. From the history of the St. Petersburg Institute of culture» is dedicated to one of the most tragic and heroic periods in the life of the University. The St. Petersburg state Institute of culture is one of the oldest educational institu tions in the country that trains specialists in the field of culture. During its more than a century of history, the Institute has experienced no problem period, repeatedly changed its profile and name: founded in 1918 As an Institute of extracurricular education in the 1930s. it was known as the Communist political and educational Institute. N. K. Krup skaya. In the spring of 1941, the Institute underwent another reform. He met the war as the Leningrad state library Institute. N. K. Krupskaya (LGBI) is an Institute designed to train specialists of the most humane profession on earth — librarians. But the role of a fighter fell to his lot — hundreds of his pupils fought at the front, worked in the rear. The Institute itself, which remained in the blockaded Leningrad (Saint Petersburg), continued to work as a faculty as part Of The M. N. Pokrovsky peda gogical Institute, and even managed to provide training and graduation in the winter of 1942-during the most difficult period of the defense of the city of Leningrad. The theme of the great Patriotic war is considered in the book in the context of the military fate of teachers, employees and students of the Institute. The book consists of 4 parts. The first part presents the memoirs of students and teachers about the work of the Institute during the
siege, as well as an article by a graduate of 1942, L. Kazantseva, which is written on the basis of archival materials and their own memories. The second part presents biographical materials about University graduates who participated in the great Patriotic war. The publication is divided into two topics: about those who died defending their homeland (four essays), and about those who, after going through all the hardships of the war, restored peaceful life in the post-war period (five es says), as well as materials of the research work about graduates of 1941, performed by stu dents of the faculty of cultural and educational work N. Bolotina and L. Pavlova in 1979. The second part presents biographical materials about graduates of the University — par ticipants of the great Patriotic war. The publication is divided into two topics: about those who died defending their homeland (four essays), and about those who, having passed all the hardships of the war, restored peaceful life in the post-war period (five essays), as well as materials of the research work about the graduates of 1941, performed by students of the faculty of cultural and educational work N. Bolotina and L. Pavlova in 1979. The search for former students-participants of the war was undertaken repeatedly, but led to a disappointing result: the fate of only a few dozen graduates is known, while more than 500 went to the front in August — September 1941 directly from the student bench: 119 of them — in the active army, 424-in the People’s Militia. There were also hundreds of those who graduated from the
Institute in the 1930s, they went to the war fronts with conscription points throughout the country. in the Great Patriotic war, the Institute’s students served in the army mainly in political positions. This was due to the fact that in the Leningrad Communist political and educational Institute, the largest and most
Summary 365 popular was the faculty of political and educational work, which trained leaders of party schools and courses. Also in high school during the 1930s were conducted on a facultative basis, training on specialty «political instructor, regimental schools». This explains why, when conscripted into the army, graduates became political fighters, Commissars, politi cal officers. in the difficult situation of the first months of the war, political workers were in the most dangerous areas of battles. Most of them died in the first months of the war. The third part is a Biographical directory compiled from the materials of the Insti tute’s archive for the period from 1945 to 2019, about all teachers and employees who served in the army or worked during the war and were awarded government awards for their exploits. Extracts from autobiographies and questionnaires are supplemented with materials from the award lists, which are published as part of the Internet project of the Ministry of defense of the Russian Federation “Feat of The people”1. The section also includes a list of employees awarded the badge «Resident of besieged Leningrad». The hero city of Leningrad was on the front line, constantly shelled by the troops of Nazi Ger many. Many of its civilians were killed. Those who survived the horrors of the blockade, but did not serve in the army and did not work — they were mostly children-were awarded a special badge «Resident of the besieged Leningrad», established by the decision of the Executive Committee of the Leningrad city Council of 23.01.1989. The fourth
part is the memoirs of «children of war». This is the name of those who were bom in the Soviet Union in 1930—1945. they have their own special «childhood island». The knowledge of good and evil passed along the front line, bombing, shelling, starvation. They remember the war with their hearts rather than their memories. Most of the authors of the memoirs have worked at the Institute for more than a decade, becom ing leading experts not only in the field of selected scientific discipline, but also wellknown teachers-Methodists of higher education. They have written dozens of textbooks and manuals, which have been studied and will be studied by any generation of students. 75 years have passed since the end of the war, known in Europe as the Second world war. But it turned out that the memory of this great war is more than just the memory of the war. This book is about those who survived those fateful years. About students, about teachers, about always imperceptible employees, about all who contributed to the Victory. And the Institute that fought like a soldier. 1 Подвиг народа.
