Zusammenfassung: | "While trying to revive Jewish national life by teaching Hebrew and Judaism in the Soviet Union, Ephraim Kholmyansky is arrested and threatened with long years of imprisonment and exile. In response, he declares a hunger strike. Supporters throughout the world rally to pressure the Soviet government to release him. A race against time begins... Ephraim Kholmyansky was born in Moscow in 1950. In 1979, he initiated an underground network for dissemination of Hebrew, Jewish tradition and Zionist values throughout the peripheral cities of the USSR. He was arrested in 1984 when the KGB planted weapons in his apartment in order to stage a show trial and intimidate Jewish activists. Kholmyansky held a prolonged hunger strike while kept in prison. Thanks to his hunger strike and major international solidarity campaign, he received a relatively short sentence. This is an exceedingly rare case of victory over the KGB. This book documents this trying episode of his life and provides a unique perspective from inside the USSR"-- |

This book documents this trying episode of his life and provides a unique perspective from inside the USSR"-- Geschichte 1978-1988 gnd rswk-swf Juden (DE-588)4028808-0 gnd rswk-swf Politischer Gefangener (DE-588)4076230-0 gnd rswk-swf Politisches Handeln (DE-588)4128597-9 gnd rswk-swf Sowjetunion (DE-588)4077548-3 gnd rswk-swf Kholmyansky, Ephraim / 1950- Jews / Soviet Union / Biography Refuseniks / Biography Political prisoners / Soviet Union / Biography Israel / Emigration and immigration / Biography Emigration and immigration Jews Political prisoners Refuseniks Israel Soviet Union Biographies (DE-588)4133254-4 Erlebnisbericht gnd-content Sowjetunion (DE-588)4077548-3 g Juden (DE-588)4028808-0 s Politisches Handeln (DE-588)4128597-9 s Politischer Gefangener (DE-588)4076230-0 s Geschichte 1978-1988 z DE-604 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, PDF 978-1-64469-681-1 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, EPUB 978-1-64469-593-7 Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=033093637&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=033093637&sequence=000003&line_number=0002&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Register // Gemischte Register |
