Zusammenfassung:Catalonia has been developing as a food hub for 25 to 30 years. The autonomous region's ambition is to remain a world leader in the production and preparation of local food. Catalonia has demonstrated that a comprehensive food offer, with multiple components - farming practices, food processing, gastronomy and tourism promotion - can be transformative. This case study describes how. Behind the drive to become a world-renowned food hub, we find many local initiatives, primarily in rural areas. Some of the greatest chefs in the world have set up home in small towns, some distance from Barcelona, and work very closely with local producers. These chefs operate in a network, hiring apprentices that will open their own restaurants and carry on the tradition. This emphasis on quality food and rigorous training spills over into the big cities, but the initiative is essentially rural. The regional and city tourism authorities, concerned with overtourism in Barcelona, have seized on the theme to encourage tourists to leave the city to discover the agricultural and gastronomic heritage of remoter areas
