Zusammenfassung: | This volume traces the distinct cultural languages in which individual and collective forms of trauma are expressed in diverse variations, including oral and written narratives, literature, comic strips, photography, theatre, and cinematic images. The central argument is that traumatic memories are frequently beyond the sphere of medical, legal, or state intervention. To address these different, often intertwined modes of language, the contributors provide a variety of disciplinary approaches to foster innovative debates and provoke new insights. Prevailing definitions of trauma can best be understood according to the cultural and historical conditions within which they exist. Languages of Trauma explores what this means in practice by scrutinizing varied historical moments from the First World War onwards and particular cultural contexts from across Europe, the United States, Asia, and Africa - striving to help decolonize the traditional Western-centred history of trauma, dissolving it into multifaceted transnational histories of trauma cultures |

spelling | Languages of trauma history, memory, and media edited by Peter Leese, Julia Barbara Köhne and Jason Crouthamel Toronto ; Buffalo ; London University of Toronto Press [2021] © 2021 1 Online-Ressource (xiv, 408 Seiten) Illustrationen, Karten txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier This volume traces the distinct cultural languages in which individual and collective forms of trauma are expressed in diverse variations, including oral and written narratives, literature, comic strips, photography, theatre, and cinematic images. Languages of Trauma explores what this means in practice by scrutinizing varied historical moments from the First World War onwards and particular cultural contexts from across Europe, the United States, Asia, and Africa - striving to help decolonize the traditional Western-centred history of trauma, dissolving it into multifaceted transnational histories of trauma cultures SOCIAL SCIENCE / Media Studies bisacsh Memory in art Memory in literature Memory in motion pictures Psychic trauma and mass media Psychic trauma in literature Psychic trauma in motion pictures Psychic trauma in music Psychic trauma in the theater War films History and criticism War in literature Medien (DE-588)4169187-8 gnd rswk-swf Kollektives Gedächtnis (DE-588)4200793-8 gnd rswk-swf Sprache (DE-588)4056449-6 gnd rswk-swf Kollektivbewusstsein (DE-588)4134172-7 gnd rswk-swf Psychisches Trauma (DE-588)4060749-5 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Psychisches Trauma (DE-588)4060749-5 s Sprache (DE-588)4056449-6 s Kollektives Gedächtnis (DE-588)4200793-8 s Kollektivbewusstsein (DE-588)4134172-7 s Medien (DE-588)4169187-8 s DE-604 Leese, Peter 1962- (DE-588)1117938492 edt Köhne, Julia Barbara 1974- (DE-588)130057711 edt Crouthamel, Jason (DE-588)142884537 edt Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 978-1-4875-0896-8 https://doi.org/10.3138/9781487539405 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
