Zusammenfassung:"Although text remains the privileged medium of architectural theory, speech and writing continue to be deeply interdependent – even in a society increasingly dominated by literacy. This is all the truer today with instant text messaging and chat rooms, since such forms of writing can be likened to face-to-face conversation. If ‘talk’ indeed remains fundamental to human communication, what might be the value of orality in the production of architectural theory? The British architect Cedric Price offers a relevant case study. Price often referred to his writings and lectures as ‘chats’: casual open-ended conversations implying the participation of his audience. Price engaged architectural theory not only in what he wrote or said, but also in the proximity and interaction he developed with his interlocutors. This chapter examines the dialogic nature of Price’s discourse and retraces its ties to a variety of performance-related practices that critically challenge received notions of architectural autonomy and authorship."
