Beschreibung:The publication is based on the author's research conducted among the Assyrian-Aramaic community in Sweden. Assyrians and the descendants of ancient Arameans found their way to Scandinavia in the late 1960s, fleeing Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Lebanon as a result of wars and a lack of prospects. Currently, they constitute a thriving diaspora of over one hundred and twenty thousand people which contributes in various ways to the development of their adopted homeland. The Swedish model, albeit imperfect, has proved its worth in their case. The author describes Sweden's migration and integration policy, stages and forms of institutionalization in this country, the history of the Assyrian-Aramaic community in the Middle East, the internal dynamics of this group, its relations within the society and transnational ties. The monograph deals with a current topic, which is the acculturation of people from the Middle East in Europe. However, it has been tackled from a new perspective in Poland – showing how Middle Eastern Christians cope with integration
