Zusammenfassung: | Gender, Space, and Experience at the Renaissance Court investigates the dynamic relationships between gender and architectural space in Renaissance Italy. It examines the ceremonial use and artistic reception of the Palazzo Te from the arrival of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V in 1530 to the Sack of Mantua in 1630. This book further proposes that we conceptualise the built environment as a performative space, a space formed by the gendered relationships and actors of its time. The Palazzo Te was constituted by the gendered behaviors of sixteenth-century courtiers, but it was not simply a passive receptor of gender performance. Through its multivalent form and ceremonial function, Maria F. Maurer argues that the palace was an active participant in the construction and perception of femininity and masculinity in the early modern court |

Maurer argues that the palace was an active participant in the construction and perception of femininity and masculinity in the early modern court Palazzo del Te (Mantua, Italy) / History Geschichte 1500-1600 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1530-1600 gnd rswk-swf Architecture / Human factors / Italy / Mantua / History Sex role / Italy / Mantua / History Architecture and society / Italy / Mantua / History Architecture / Psychological aspects Ausstattung (DE-588)4138356-4 gnd rswk-swf Höfische Kunst (DE-588)4160343-6 gnd rswk-swf Weiblichkeit Motiv (DE-588)4232374-5 gnd rswk-swf Kultur (DE-588)4125698-0 gnd rswk-swf Geschlechterforschung (DE-588)4482930-9 gnd rswk-swf Geschlechterrolle (DE-588)4071776-8 gnd rswk-swf Hof (DE-588)4025453-7 gnd rswk-swf Männlichkeit Motiv (DE-588)4372433-4 gnd rswk-swf Raum (DE-588)4048561-4 gnd rswk-swf Adelshaus (DE-588)4141396-9 gnd rswk-swf Palazzo del Tè Mantua (DE-588)4206588-4 gnd rswk-swf Mantua (DE-588)4114978-6 gnd rswk-swf Palazzo del Tè Mantua (DE-588)4206588-4 g Adelshaus (DE-588)4141396-9 s Höfische Kunst (DE-588)4160343-6 s Ausstattung (DE-588)4138356-4 s Raum (DE-588)4048561-4 s Männlichkeit Motiv (DE-588)4372433-4 s Weiblichkeit Motiv (DE-588)4232374-5 s Geschichte 1530-1600 z DE-604 Mantua (DE-588)4114978-6 g Hof (DE-588)4025453-7 s Geschlechterrolle (DE-588)4071776-8 s Geschlechterforschung (DE-588)4482930-9 s Kultur (DE-588)4125698-0 s Geschichte 1500-1600 z Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-94-629-8553-7 https://doi.org/10.1017/9789048536689 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
