Zusammenfassung: | Laure Humbert explores how humanitarian aid in occupied Germany was influenced by French politics of national recovery and Cold War rivalries. She examines the everyday encounters between French officials, members of new international organizations, relief workers, defeated Germans and Displaced Persons, who remained in the territory of the French zone prior to their repatriation or emigration. By rendering relief workers and Displaced Persons visible, she sheds lights on their role in shaping relief practices and addresses the neglected issue of the gendering of rehabilitation. In doing so, Humbert highlights different cultures of rehabilitation, in part rooted in pre-war ideas about 'overcoming' poverty and war-induced injuries and, crucially, she unearths the active and bottom-up nature of the restoration of France's prestige. Not only were relief workers concerned about the image of France circulating in DP camps, but they also drew DP artists into the orbit of French cultural diplomacy in Germany |

Not only were relief workers concerned about the image of France circulating in DP camps, but they also drew DP artists into the orbit of French cultural diplomacy in Germany Geschichte 1945-1952 gnd rswk-swf World War, 1939-1945 / Civilian relief / Germany (West) Refugee camps / Germany (West) / History / 20th century World War, 1939-1945 / Refugees / Germany (West) Humanitarian assistance / Germany (West) International relief / Germany (West) Refugees / Government policy / France / History / 20th century Diplomatische Beziehungen (DE-588)4138523-8 gnd rswk-swf Humanitäre Hilfe (DE-588)4438965-6 gnd rswk-swf Flüchtlingslager (DE-588)4017611-3 gnd rswk-swf Displaced Person (DE-588)4140484-1 gnd rswk-swf France / Foreign relations / Germany Germany / Foreign relations / France Deutschland Gebiet unter Alliierter Besatzung, Französische Zone (DE-588)35101-5 gnd rswk-swf Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 gnd rswk-swf Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 g Deutschland Gebiet unter Alliierter Besatzung, Französische Zone (DE-588)35101-5 g Flüchtlingslager (DE-588)4017611-3 s Humanitäre Hilfe (DE-588)4438965-6 s Displaced Person (DE-588)4140484-1 s Diplomatische Beziehungen (DE-588)4138523-8 s Geschichte 1945-1952 z DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-1-108-83135-2 https://doi.org/10.1017/9781108916981 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
