THE ALBANIAN PROSE OF THE PERIOD 1920-1944 Conclusion In this monograph are analyzed and interpreted three essential elements of the works of eleven authors of the years 1920-1944: The implied author, the Narrator and the Characters. The stories, the referential space and time and the narrative duration are also briefly analyzed. In all the works of the period in question is investi gated the presence and interventions of the implied author. These interventions are sometimes so strong that we even encounter statements, thus merging literary boundaries with journalistic or even life boundaries. Migjen is the best exa mple of this fusion, to the detriment of aesthetics. In the work of Migjeni this comes of course as a result of his great talent, the result of his little experience and underdeveloped literary consciousness. However, even in the works of writers with high literary conscience, such as Koliqi, we find powerful interventions that lean the balance of his prose towards ideas and ideology, the ethic code and moralizations. Interven tions, expressions of thoughts, ideas, ideologies that color the text, we have in works of Sterjo Spasse, Haki Stërmilli, Faik
344 Gëzim ALIU Konica, Petro Marko, even in works of Musmè Kokaları, Postoli and Greblleshi. The latter writes a ‘light’ novel about love, but has a text Ml of authorial thoughts. Kuteli and Kokona, meanwhile, as if they hide the author better inside the text, his voice is not heard loudly. In every text, of every literary period, the implied au thor is present, even at the linguistic level: when he starts making comparisons, ironizing or putting labels. The implied author is a tool of the real author, the entity that selects and determines everything, both ideologically and technicallynarratively. But the artistic mastery, if the author has it, causes that his presence within the text and his interventions to be amortized and thus achieve the required balance. In a large part of the literary creations that we have analyzed above, the balance is shaken and we have proved this through numerous textual quotations. Such oscillations are under standable when we take into account the time of writing of these texts, in the period when the writing of Albanian arti stic prose begins to slowly stabilize. In the prose of the period 1920-1944, all the three ways of narration are used, but the third person, the classical na rrator, is used more often. For example, Koliqi, in the work A Flag Trader , builds his stories through this safe thirdperson. Migjeni also uses the third person more often in his stories, which he calls novels, and in his sketches too, but he also uses the first person, of course. In the novel-diaries, If I were a boy , Why?! , The abyss of love , for the
veiy nature of the form, the first person is used, because the narrator is the writer of the diary, but the third person is used, too. Spasse, in his second novel of that period, Aferdita uses the third person. In sketches and stories he uses all three persons. Konica, in the launched novel, “Dr. Gjëlpëra ... ”,
PROZA SHQIPE E VITEVE 1920-1944 345 and in his only story he writes from the ‘four tales’ he forewarns, uses the classical third person. Kokona uses three modes (third, second and first person), sometimes inter weaving them within a story. Postoli also builds the narrative in his two novels through the third person. Kokalari and Marko use the third person and the first, but the third person predominates. Of all these authors, we have an interesting use of the narrator in Kuteli s prose. In most cases, we encounter a narrator who opens the narration, but does not narrate about himself: he tells a story that he has heard or experienced as a witness or observer, but often also about another character found in his circle of the narrative, which meanwhile begins to narrate for another circle, for another story. The people (personages, characters) that we find in the prose of these authors, are sometimes direct and sometimes less such representatives of the Albanian people of the first half of the twentieth century. From the intellectual Doda of Koliqi, who becomes a murderer, and through Luke e Migjenit, to the narrator-characters of Kuteli, the intellectuals of Konica, the dissatisfied girls and women of Stërmilli, the depressed boys and idealistic girls of Spasse, the suffering and the trampled women of Kokalari, the desolate people of Marko, the girls with the lack of love and happiness of Ko kona, and even the sentimental-patriotic characters of Postoli and Greblleshi, we encounter the essences of the people of the first half of the twentieth century. Although created by
words, language, i.e. artifices, they embody features through which we can look at the physical, psychological, material, cultural, ethnographic and social reality of Albania of those years. We think that here lies the value of the creation and characterization of these people of the narrated worlds of

True, they do not represent the totality of Albanian life, realism in Albanian literature has not developed, neither before nor at that time, but from these fragments of realistic and sometimes, less often of course, even psychological prose, we can build in mind an interesting and entertaining mosaic of the people ofthat time.

THE ALBANIAN PROSE OF THE PERIOD 1920-1944 Conclusion In this monograph are analyzed and interpreted three essential elements of the works of eleven authors of the years 1920-1944: The implied author, the Narrator and the Characters. The stories, the referential space and time and the narrative duration are also briefly analyzed. In all the works of the period in question is investi gated the presence and interventions of the implied author. These interventions are sometimes so strong that we even encounter statements, thus merging literary boundaries with journalistic or even life boundaries. Migjen is the best exa mple of this fusion, to the detriment of aesthetics. In the work of Migjeni this comes of course as a result of his great talent, the result of his little experience and underdeveloped literary consciousness. However, even in the works of writers with high literary conscience, such as Koliqi, we find powerful interventions that lean the balance of his prose towards ideas and ideology, the ethic code and moralizations. Interven tions, expressions of thoughts, ideas, ideologies that color the text, we have in works of Sterjo Spasse, Haki Stërmilli, Faik
344 Gëzim ALIU Konica, Petro Marko, even in works of Musmè Kokaları, Postoli and Greblleshi. The latter writes a ‘light’ novel about love, but has a text Ml of authorial thoughts. Kuteli and Kokona, meanwhile, as if they hide the author better inside the text, his voice is not heard loudly. In every text, of every literary period, the implied au thor is present, even at the linguistic level: when he starts making comparisons, ironizing or putting labels. The implied author is a tool of the real author, the entity that selects and determines everything, both ideologically and technicallynarratively. But the artistic mastery, if the author has it, causes that his presence within the text and his interventions to be amortized and thus achieve the required balance. In a large part of the literary creations that we have analyzed above, the balance is shaken and we have proved this through numerous textual quotations. Such oscillations are under standable when we take into account the time of writing of these texts, in the period when the writing of Albanian arti stic prose begins to slowly stabilize. In the prose of the period 1920-1944, all the three ways of narration are used, but the third person, the classical na rrator, is used more often. For example, Koliqi, in the work "A Flag Trader", builds his stories through this "safe" thirdperson. Migjeni also uses the third person more often in his stories, which he calls novels, and in his sketches too, but he also uses the first person, of course. In the novel-diaries, "If I were a boy", "Why?!", "The abyss of love", for the
veiy nature of the form, the first person is used, because the narrator is the writer of the diary, but the third person is used, too. Spasse, in his second novel of that period, "Aferdita" uses the third person. In sketches and stories he uses all three persons. Konica, in the launched novel, “Dr. Gjëlpëra . ”,
PROZA SHQIPE E VITEVE 1920-1944 345 and in his only story he writes from the ‘four tales’ he forewarns, uses the classical third person. Kokona uses three modes (third, second and first person), sometimes inter weaving them within a story. Postoli also builds the narrative in his two novels through the third person. Kokalari and Marko use the third person and the first, but the third person predominates. Of all these authors, we have an interesting use of the narrator in Kuteli's prose. In most cases, we encounter a narrator who opens the narration, but does not narrate about himself: he tells a story that he has heard or experienced as a witness or observer, but often also about another character found in his circle of the narrative, which meanwhile begins to narrate for another circle, for another story. The people (personages, characters) that we find in the prose of these authors, are sometimes direct and sometimes less such representatives of the Albanian people of the first half of the twentieth century.
