Zusammenfassung:This article examines certain artworks produced under the patronage of Stanisław August, King of Poland, which were inspired by ancient art, history and literature. In this respect, he was no different from many other art enthusiasts fascinated by a new style - neoclassicism. The author discusses that Stanisław August endowed the artworks with a genuine message by drawing upon Antiquity. On the one hand, these inspirations were ideal for adding a certain majesty and prestige to the image of the king. On the other hand, the use of ancient motifs was intended to assure the king’s subjects that Stanisław August was a new Augustus who would guarantee the country a better future.
