Zusammenfassung: | Studies of ancient theater have traditionally taken Athens as their creative center. In this book, however, the lens is widened to examine the origins and development of ancient drama, and particularly comedy, within a Sicilian and southern Italian context. Each chapter explores a different category of theatrical evidence, from the literary (fragments of Epicharmus and cult traditions) to the artistic (phylax vases) and the archaeological (theater buildings). Kathryn G. Bosher argues that, unlike in classical Athens, the golden days of theatrical production on Sicily coincided with the rule of tyrants, rather than with democratic interludes. Moreover, this was not accidental, but plays and the theater were an integral part of the tyrants' propaganda system. The volume will appeal widely to classicists and to theater historians |

Bosher (Northwestern University, Illinois) ; edited by Edith Hall (King's College London), Clemente Marconi (New York University and Universitá degli Studi di Milano) Cambridge ; New York ; Port Melbourne ; New Delhi ; Singapore Cambridge University Press 2021 xiii, 233 Seiten 15 Illustrationen, 2 Karten txt rdacontent n rdamedia nc rdacarrier Studies of ancient theater have traditionally taken Athens as their creative center. The volume will appeal widely to classicists and to theater historians Griechisch (DE-588)4113791-7 gnd rswk-swf Theater (DE-588)4059702-7 gnd rswk-swf Drama (DE-588)4012899-4 gnd rswk-swf Magna Graecia (DE-588)4074449-8 gnd rswk-swf Sizilien (DE-588)4055193-3 gnd rswk-swf Greek drama / Italy / Sicily / History and criticism Theater / Italy / Sicily / History / To 500 Greek drama Theater Italy / Sicily To 500 Criticism, interpretation, etc History (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Theaterwesen, griechisch (DE-2581)TH000006364 gbd Sizilien [Barrington p. 47] (DE-2581)TH000011929 gbd Magna Graecia (DE-588)4074449-8 g Sizilien (DE-588)4055193-3 g Griechisch (DE-588)4113791-7 s Drama (DE-588)4012899-4 s Theater (DE-588)4059702-7 s DE-604 Hall, Edith 1959- (DE-588)136033830 edt Marconi, Clemente 1966- (DE-588)140211225 edt Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe 978-1-108-63962-0 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe 978-1-108-66387-8 (DE-604)BV047290194 Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=032646930&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis |
