The book offers new ways of thinking about the history of photography, exploring through case studies the complex and historically specific articulations of gender and photography on the continent, and attending to the challenge and potential of contemporary feminist and postcolonial engagements with the medium. The volume is organised in thematic sections that present the lives and work of historically significant yet overlooked women photographers, as well as the work of acclaimed contemporary African women photographers such as Héla Ammar, Fatoumata Diabaté, Lebohang Kganye and Zanele Muholi. The book offers critical reflections on the politics of gendered knowledge production and the production of racialised and gendered identities and alternative and subaltern subjectivities. Several chapters illuminate how contemporary African women photographers, collectors and curators are engaging with colonial photographic archives to contest stereotypical forms of representation and produce powerful counter-histories. Raising critical questions about race, gender and the history of photography the collection provides a model for interdisciplinary feminist approaches for scholars of art history, visual studies and African history"-- |

Raising critical questions about race, gender and the history of photography the collection provides a model for interdisciplinary feminist approaches for scholars of art history, visual studies and African history"--</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Geschichte 1950-2020</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Fotografie</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4045895-7</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Fotografin</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4262252-9</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Frau</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4018202-2</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Afrika</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4000695-5</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Women photographers / Africa</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Women photographers / Africa / History</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Photography, Artistic</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Photography of women / Africa</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="0">(DE-588)1071861417</subfield><subfield code="a">Konferenzschrift</subfield><subfield code="x">University of London</subfield><subfield code="y">07.2017</subfield><subfield code="z">London</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd-content</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Afrika</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4000695-5</subfield><subfield code="D">g</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="1"><subfield code="a">Fotografin</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4262252-9</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Geschichte 1950-2020</subfield><subfield code="A">z</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="5">DE-604</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Afrika</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4000695-5</subfield><subfield code="D">g</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="1" ind2="1"><subfield code="a">Frau</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4018202-2</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="1" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Fotografie</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4045895-7</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="1" ind2="3"><subfield code="a">Geschichte 1950-2020</subfield><subfield code="A">z</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="5">DE-604</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Newbury, Darren</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)1189924099</subfield><subfield code="4">edt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Rizzo, Lorena</subfield><subfield code="d">1971-</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)1115679112</subfield><subfield code="4">edt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Thomas, Kylie</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)1165620839</subfield><subfield code="4">edt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="710" ind1="2" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">University of London</subfield><subfield code="b">Institute of Commonwealth Studies</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)1004420-6</subfield><subfield code="4">his</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Erscheint auch als</subfield><subfield code="n">Online-Ausgabe</subfield><subfield code="t">Women and photography in Africa</subfield><subfield code="d">Abingdon, Oxon ; The book offers new ways of thinking about the history of photography, exploring through case studies the complex and historically specific articulations of gender and photography on the continent, and attending to the challenge and potential of contemporary feminist and postcolonial engagements with the medium. Raising critical questions about race, gender and the history of photography the collection provides a model for interdisciplinary feminist approaches for scholars of art history, visual studies and African history"-- Geschichte 1950-2020 gnd rswk-swf Fotografie (DE-588)4045895-7 gnd rswk-swf Fotografin (DE-588)4262252-9 gnd rswk-swf Frau (DE-588)4018202-2 gnd rswk-swf Afrika (DE-588)4000695-5 gnd rswk-swf Women photographers / Africa Women photographers / Africa / History Photography, Artistic Photography of women / Africa (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift University of London 07.2017 London gnd-content Afrika (DE-588)4000695-5 g Fotografin (DE-588)4262252-9 s Geschichte 1950-2020 z DE-604 Frau (DE-588)4018202-2 s Fotografie (DE-588)4045895-7 s Newbury, Darren (DE-588)1189924099 edt Rizzo, Lorena 1971- (DE-588)1115679112 edt Thomas, Kylie (DE-588)1165620839 edt University of London Institute of Commonwealth Studies (DE-588)1004420-6 his Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe Women and photography in Africa Abingdon, Oxon ; New York, NY : Routledge, 2021 978-1-003-08741-0 (DE-604)BV047201432 V:DE-576;B:DE-16 application/pdf http://swbplus.bsz-bw.de/bsz1696801753rez.htm 20210220193123 Rezension V:DE-604 application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=032600330&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis |
