17 Povzetek Puščavniki viljemiti so se na Muti najverjetneje naselili sredi 13. stoletja. Njihova postojanka pri rotundi sv. Janeza Krstnika na Spodnji Muti takrat še ni bila samostan, v virih pa je prvič omenjena leta 1271. Kdaj so se muški viljemiti vključili v takrat nastajajoč avguštinski puščavniški red, ni znano, gotovo pa enkrat v drugi polovici 13. stoletja. Prav tako ni znano, kdaj so začeli graditi samostan na Zgornji Muti. Iz ohranjenih virov vemo samo, da je bila nova samostanska cerkev posvečena sv. Janezu Krstniku in da so ji bili v dveh listinah, izdanih leta 1290 in 1297, podeljeni odpustki. Kot ustanovitelj samostana se po samostanskem izročilu omenja rodbina Viltuških. Med dobrotniki pa srečamo še rodbine Marenberških, Vuzeniških in Celjskih. Leta 1532 so samostan oplenili in opustošili Turki. Dodaten udarec zanj je pomenila tudi reformacija, zaradi katere je opustel marsikateri avguštinski samostan v notranjeavstrijskih deželah, Muta pa pri tem ni bila izjema. Nekaj časa je v samostanu v času druge polovice 16. stoletja bival le po en menih, samostan pa je bil v soupravi velikovškega avguštinskega samostana. To je trajalo do leta 1606, ko je bil samostan spet stalno naseljen. Med 17. stoletjem sta na Muti bivala en do dva meniha. Število menihov in tudi redovnih bratov laikov je začelo rasti šele v 18. stoletju, največ jih je bilo leta 1767, ko je tu bivalo 8 patrov in 4 bratje laiki. Sredi 18. stoletja je bil muški avguštinski samostan deležen celovite prenove, zgradili pa so tudi novo samostansko cerkev. Cvetoče obdobje razvoja pa v primeru muškega
samostana ni trajalo dolgo. Komaj so v letu 1760 dokončali obnovo samostanskih poslopij in novogradnjo samostanske cerkve, že so se na obzorju kazali obrisi razsvetljenega absolutizma. Cesar Jožef II. je dal po letu 1780 ukiniti vse avguštinske samostane v notranjeavstrijskih deželah. Muški samostan je ta usoda doletela 6. oktobra 1785. Kako dolgo po ukinitvi so na Muti še bivali avguštinci, ne vemo. Lahko pa na podlagi odhodkov za prehrano in preskrbo sledimo njihovo prisotnost vse do leta 1787. Premično in nepremično premoženje samostana je po njegovi ukinitvi prešlo na štajerski verski sklad, ki je vsega razprodal, večino liturgičnega posodja (kelihe, ciborije, monstrance, relikviarije) pa brezplačno predal ordinariatoma ljubljanske in sekovske škofije. Leta 1789 je stavbo samostana skupaj s cerkvijo kupil Vincenc Schliber. Samostanska cerkev sv. Janeza Krstnika je nato med prvo polovico 19. stoletja popolnoma propadla. V stavbi samostana so leta 1886 uredili prostore ljudske šole. Danes je v tej stavbi varstveno delovni center. Na mestu nekdanje samostanske cerkve pa je v drugi polovici 20. stoletja zrasel nov gasilski dom. Na nekdanji avguštinski samostan na Muti nas poleg osrednje samostanske stavbe spominjajo še posamezni arhivski dokumenti, nekaj kosov cerkvene opreme, nekaj knjig iz samostanske knjižnice in spominska plošča na cerkvi sv. Marjete na Muti. 150
19 Summary The Hermits of St. William probably settled in Muta in the middle of the 13th century. In the beginning, their post was at the rotunda of St. John the Baptist which is mentioned in sources for the first time in 1271. It is not known when they joined the then emerging Augustin eremite order, however, it can be presumed it was in the second half of the 13th century. It is also not known when the construction of the Muta monastery began. The preserved sources testify that the new monastery church was dedicated to St. John the Baptist and received indulgences in charters from 1290 and 1291. According to monastic tradition, it was established by the Viltuž family and benefited by families from Marenberg, Vuzenica and Celje. In 1532, the monastery was pillaged and ravaged by the Turks. Reformation brought an additional blow to the monastery. Similar to other Augustine monasteries in the Inner Austrian lands, the Muta monastery did not escape their fate. During the second half of the 16th century and until 1606, a single friar lived in the monastery, which was also under the administration of the Augustin monasteiy in Velikovec for some time. In the 17th century, at least one or two friars lived in the convent permanently. Only in the 18th century the number of inhabitants rose and reached its peak in 1767, when 8 priests and 4 religious brothers lived there. In the middle of the 18th century, the monastery was wholly renovated and a new monastery church was built. However, the prosperous years did not last long; in 1760, when the renovation of the monasteiy and the
building of the church was finished, enlightened absolutism began to emerge. Emperor Josef II abolished all Augustin monasteries in the Inner Austrian lands. The monastery in Muta was abolished on October 6,1785, and it is not known how long the Augustins continued to live there. However, based on their food and supply expenses, we can assume they were at the convent at least until 1787. All assets of the convent were transferred to the Styrian Religious Fond and sold. Most of the liturgy items (chalices, ciboriums, monstrances, reliquaries) were given to the ordinary’s offices of the Seckau and Ljubljana dioceses. In 1789, the monastery was purchased by Vincenc Schliber. During the first half of the 19th century, the convent church of St. John the Baptist fell to ruin almost completely. From 1886, the monastery building was used as a school and today it houses a special social care and employment centre. In the second half of the 20th century, a new fire station was built in the place of the former convent church. Besides the central monastery building, only individual archival records, a few church items, some books from the monastery library and a memorial plaque on the church of St. Margaret remind us of the former Augustin monastery in Muta. 153

17 Povzetek Puščavniki viljemiti so se na Muti najverjetneje naselili sredi 13. stoletja. Njihova postojanka pri rotundi sv. Janeza Krstnika na Spodnji Muti takrat še ni bila samostan, v virih pa je prvič omenjena leta 1271. Kdaj so se muški viljemiti vključili v takrat nastajajoč avguštinski puščavniški red, ni znano, gotovo pa enkrat v drugi polovici 13. stoletja. Prav tako ni znano, kdaj so začeli graditi samostan na Zgornji Muti. Iz ohranjenih virov vemo samo, da je bila nova samostanska cerkev posvečena sv. Janezu Krstniku in da so ji bili v dveh listinah, izdanih leta 1290 in 1297, podeljeni odpustki. Kot ustanovitelj samostana se po samostanskem izročilu omenja rodbina Viltuških. Med dobrotniki pa srečamo še rodbine Marenberških, Vuzeniških in Celjskih. Leta 1532 so samostan oplenili in opustošili Turki. Dodaten udarec zanj je pomenila tudi reformacija, zaradi katere je opustel marsikateri avguštinski samostan v notranjeavstrijskih deželah, Muta pa pri tem ni bila izjema. Nekaj časa je v samostanu v času druge polovice 16. stoletja bival le po en menih, samostan pa je bil v soupravi velikovškega avguštinskega samostana. To je trajalo do leta 1606, ko je bil samostan spet stalno naseljen. Med 17. stoletjem sta na Muti bivala en do dva meniha. Število menihov in tudi redovnih bratov laikov je začelo rasti šele v 18. stoletju, največ jih je bilo leta 1767, ko je tu bivalo 8 patrov in 4 bratje laiki. Sredi 18. stoletja je bil muški avguštinski samostan deležen celovite prenove, zgradili pa so tudi novo samostansko cerkev. Cvetoče obdobje razvoja pa v primeru muškega
samostana ni trajalo dolgo. Komaj so v letu 1760 dokončali obnovo samostanskih poslopij in novogradnjo samostanske cerkve, že so se na obzorju kazali obrisi razsvetljenega absolutizma. Cesar Jožef II. je dal po letu 1780 ukiniti vse avguštinske samostane v notranjeavstrijskih deželah. Muški samostan je ta usoda doletela 6. oktobra 1785. Kako dolgo po ukinitvi so na Muti še bivali avguštinci, ne vemo. Lahko pa na podlagi odhodkov za prehrano in preskrbo sledimo njihovo prisotnost vse do leta 1787. Premično in nepremično premoženje samostana je po njegovi ukinitvi prešlo na štajerski verski sklad, ki je vsega razprodal, večino liturgičnega posodja (kelihe, ciborije, monstrance, relikviarije) pa brezplačno predal ordinariatoma ljubljanske in sekovske škofije. Leta 1789 je stavbo samostana skupaj s cerkvijo kupil Vincenc Schliber. Samostanska cerkev sv. Janeza Krstnika je nato med prvo polovico 19. stoletja popolnoma propadla. V stavbi samostana so leta 1886 uredili prostore ljudske šole. Danes je v tej stavbi varstveno delovni center. Na mestu nekdanje samostanske cerkve pa je v drugi polovici 20. stoletja zrasel nov gasilski dom. Na nekdanji avguštinski samostan na Muti nas poleg osrednje samostanske stavbe spominjajo še posamezni arhivski dokumenti, nekaj kosov cerkvene opreme, nekaj knjig iz samostanske knjižnice in spominska plošča na cerkvi sv. Marjete na Muti. 150
19 Summary The Hermits of St. William probably settled in Muta in the middle of the 13th century. In the beginning, their post was at the rotunda of St. John the Baptist which is mentioned in sources for the first time in 1271. It is not known when they joined the then emerging Augustin eremite order, however, it can be presumed it was in the second half of the 13th century. It is also not known when the construction of the Muta monastery began. The preserved sources testify that the new monastery church was dedicated to St. John the Baptist and received indulgences in charters from 1290 and 1291. According to monastic tradition, it was established by the Viltuž family and benefited by families from Marenberg, Vuzenica and Celje. In 1532, the monastery was pillaged and ravaged by the Turks. Reformation brought an additional blow to the monastery. Similar to other Augustine monasteries in the Inner Austrian lands, the Muta monastery did not escape their fate. During the second half of the 16th century and until 1606, a single friar lived in the monastery, which was also under the administration of the Augustin monasteiy in Velikovec for some time. In the 17th century, at least one or two friars lived in the convent permanently. Only in the 18th century the number of inhabitants rose and reached its peak in 1767, when 8 priests and 4 religious brothers lived there. In the middle of the 18th century, the monastery was wholly renovated and a new monastery church was built. However, the prosperous years did not last long; in 1760, when the renovation of the monasteiy and the
building of the church was finished, enlightened absolutism began to emerge. Emperor Josef II abolished all Augustin monasteries in the Inner Austrian lands. The monastery in Muta was abolished on October 6,1785, and it is not known how long the Augustins continued to live there. However, based on their food and supply expenses, we can assume they were at the convent at least until 1787. All assets of the convent were transferred to the Styrian Religious Fond and sold. Most of the liturgy items (chalices, ciboriums, monstrances, reliquaries) were given to the ordinary’s offices of the Seckau and Ljubljana dioceses. In 1789, the monastery was purchased by Vincenc Schliber. During the first half of the 19th century, the convent church of St. John the Baptist fell to ruin almost completely. From 1886, the monastery building was used as a school and today it houses a special social care and employment centre. In the second half of the 20th century, a new fire station was built in the place of the former convent church. Besides the central monastery building, only individual archival records, a few church items, some books from the monastery library and a memorial plaque on the church of St. Margaret remind us of the former Augustin monastery in Muta. 153
