Zusammenfassung: | "The history of music is most often written as a sequence of composers and works. But a richer understanding of the music of the past may be obtained by also considering the afterlives of a composer's works. Genealogies of Music and Memory asks how the stage works of Christoph Willibald Gluck (1714-1787) were cultivated in nineteenth-century Paris, and concludes that although the composer was not represented formally on the stage until 1859, his music was known from a wide range of musical and literary environments. Received opinion has Hector Berlioz as the sole guardian of the Gluckian flame from the 1820s onwards, and responsible-together with the soprano Pauline Viardot-for the 'revival' of the composer's Orfeo in 1859. The picture is much clarified by looking at the concert performances of Gluck during the first two thirds of the nineteenth century, and the ways in which they were received and the literary discourses they engendered. Coupled to questions of music publication, pedagogy, and the institutional status of the composer, such a study reveals a wide range of individual agents active in the promotion of Gluck's music for the Parisian stage. The 'revival' of Orfeo is contextualized among other attempts at reviving Gluck's works in the 1860s, and the role of Berlioz, Viardot, and a host of others re-examined"-- |

Titel vom Buchrücken entnommen Rezensiert in: Music & letters, volume 105, number 2, (2024), Seite 255-260 (Barry Cooper) Introduction. Gluck Reception and Cultural Exchange -- Gluck in Performance, c1770 to c1870 -- Paris Imagines Gluck -- Towards 'Rediscovery' -- Gluck in the Theatre "The history of music is most often written as a sequence of composers and works. The 'revival' of Orfeo is contextualized among other attempts at reviving Gluck's works in the 1860s, and the role of Berlioz, Viardot, and a host of others re-examined"-- Gluck, Christoph Willibald 1714-1787 (DE-588)118539841 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1820-1859 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1770-1870 gnd rswk-swf Oper (DE-588)4043582-9 gnd rswk-swf Rezeption (DE-588)4049716-1 gnd rswk-swf Aufführung (DE-588)4143388-9 gnd rswk-swf Paris (DE-588)4044660-8 gnd rswk-swf Gluck, Christoph Willibald / Ritter von / 1714-1787 / Operas Gluck, Christoph Willibald / Ritter von / 1714-1787 / Performances / France / Paris / History / 19th century Gluck, Christoph Willibald / Ritter von / 1714-1787 / Appreciation / France / Paris / History / 19th century Opera / France / Paris / 19th century Gluck, Christoph Willibald / Ritter von / 1714-1787 Operas (Gluck, Christoph Willibald, Ritter von) Art appreciation Opera Performances France / Paris 1800-1899 History Gluck, Christoph Willibald 1714-1787 (DE-588)118539841 p Oper (DE-588)4043582-9 s Aufführung (DE-588)4143388-9 s Paris (DE-588)4044660-8 g Geschichte 1820-1859 z DE-604 Rezeption (DE-588)4049716-1 s Geschichte 1770-1870 z Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, EPUB 978-0-19-754602-4 (DE-604)BV047245989 Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=032599794&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis |
