Zusammenfassung: | Introduction : the Dutch swing to the right -- Struggling with depoliticization -- The rise of the Dutch new right -- The neoliberal strand -- The neoconservative strand -- A complex backlash -- The double life of Ayaan Hirsi Ali -- The birth of an online counterculture -- Rebels without a cause -- Conclusion : both a revolt and an echo "In the past twenty years, a wave of right-wing populist movements has swept over Europe, changing the face of European politics. The Netherlands has been one of the more iconic countries to partake in this shift. Known internationally as an emblem of progressivism and tolerance, the country soon became a frontrunner in the revival of nationalist and anti-immigrant sentiment. This is the first study to offer an extensive engagement with the ideas behind the Dutch swing to the right. The emergence of Dutch populism, this book shows, formed an integral part of a broader conservative tendency, identified as the Dutch New Right. In the US and the UK, the term New Right has been used to describe conservative backlash movements that arose in opposition to the progressive movements of the 1960s. The Dutch swing to the right, this book argues, formed a belated iteration of the New Right backlash that occurred overseas. This text will be essential reading for students and scholars in the fields of European Studies and Political Science, and Dutch politics and society more specifically" |

This text will be essential reading for students and scholars in the fields of European Studies and Political Science, and Dutch politics and society more specifically" Ideengeschichte 1990-2018 gnd rswk-swf Konservativismus (DE-588)4032187-3 gnd rswk-swf Politische Kultur (DE-588)4046540-8 gnd rswk-swf Politik (DE-588)4046514-7 gnd rswk-swf Neoliberalismus (DE-588)4171438-6 gnd rswk-swf Politisches Denken (DE-588)4115590-7 gnd rswk-swf Neue Rechte (DE-588)4120795-6 gnd rswk-swf Niederlande (DE-588)4042203-3 gnd rswk-swf Conservatism / Netherlands Populism / Netherlands Radicalism / Netherlands Right and left (Political science) / Netherlands Political culture / Netherlands Netherlands / Politics and government / 1945- Conservatism Political culture Politics and government Populism Radicalism Right and left (Political science) Netherlands Since 1945 (DE-588)4113937-9 Hochschulschrift gnd-content Niederlande (DE-588)4042203-3 g Politik (DE-588)4046514-7 s Konservativismus (DE-588)4032187-3 s Neoliberalismus (DE-588)4171438-6 s Neue Rechte (DE-588)4120795-6 s Politisches Denken (DE-588)4115590-7 s Politische Kultur (DE-588)4046540-8 s Ideengeschichte 1990-2018 z DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, hbk. 978-1-138-62415-3 https://doi.org/10.4324/9780429452604 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
