Zusammenfassung: | Operation Shamrock was a humanitarian initiative that placed more than 400 German children in the care of Irish families in the aftermath of the Second World War. For most participants, the roughly three-year stay in Ireland was a positive, in some cases even life-saving experience. Some children, however, suffered strongly from the separation from their families or were mistreated by their foster parents. Based on the author's exhibition The Children from Operation Shamrock, which has travelled extensively across Germany and Ireland since 2015, this book consists of interviews with eighteen participants as well as an historical analysis of the origins, circumstances and participants of Operation Shamrock. In addition, short stories based on real incidents yet creatively transformed, add an emotional dimension to the participants' early childhood experiences of separation and loss but also affection and healing. In-depth research, interviews and short stories combined facilitate a deeper understanding of an important part of Irish-German relations and the European war and postwar experience |

In-depth research, interviews and short stories combined facilitate a deeper understanding of an important part of Irish-German relations and the European war and postwar experience Geschichte 1946-1949 gnd rswk-swf Flüchtling (DE-588)4017604-6 gnd rswk-swf Kind (DE-588)4030550-8 gnd rswk-swf Deutsche (DE-588)4070334-4 gnd rswk-swf Irland (DE-588)4027667-3 gnd rswk-swf Irish foster Family Short Stories post-war Germany Fictionalized Memory Fragments Irish-German Studies Testimonies Operation Shamrock Children from Operation Shamrock Ireland Refugee children / Germany Refugees / Government policy / Ireland Refugees / Interviews Refugee children Refugees Refugees / Government policy Germany Interviews Irland (DE-588)4027667-3 g Deutsche (DE-588)4070334-4 s Kind (DE-588)4030550-8 s Flüchtling (DE-588)4017604-6 s Geschichte 1946-1949 z DE-604 Irish-German studies 14 (DE-604)BV019355794 14 Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=032496252&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis |
