Zusammenfassung: | The patterns on the shells of tropical sea snails are not only compellingly beautiful but also tell a tale of biological development. The decorative patterns are records of their own genesis, which follows laws like those of dune formation or the spread of a flu epidemic. Hans Meinhardt has analyzed the dynamical processes that form these patterns and retraced them faithfully in computer simulations. His book is exciting not only for the astonishing scientific knowledge it reveals but also for its fascinating pictures. Many of the simulations are supplied on the accompanying CD-ROM in HTML format. Thus, the highly dynamic behavior of the interactions on which shell patterning is based can be inspected like conventional websites with any browser, also on a Macintosh or Linux system. The animations are given as separate files that also can be integrated, e.g., into a PowerPoint presentation if desired. Also included are animated simulations of models that describe more general problems in the development of higher organisms, e.g., formation of organizing regions, pattern formation in hydra, gene activation, formation of net-like structures, and chemotactic orientation |

Also included are animated simulations of models that describe more general problems in the development of higher organisms, e.g., formation of organizing regions, pattern formation in hydra, gene activation, formation of net-like structures, and chemotactic orientation Computer Graphics Computer Appl. in Life Sciences Simulation and Modeling Media Design Life Sciences, general Computer graphics Bioinformatics Computational biology Computer simulation Multimedia systems Life sciences Programm (DE-588)4047394-6 gnd rswk-swf Schneckenhaus (DE-588)4370039-1 gnd rswk-swf Meeresschnecken (DE-588)4169253-6 gnd rswk-swf Meeresmuscheln (DE-588)4169248-2 gnd rswk-swf Computersimulation (DE-588)4148259-1 gnd rswk-swf Meerestiere (DE-588)4038330-1 gnd rswk-swf Schale Biologie (DE-588)4052004-3 gnd rswk-swf Musterbildung (DE-588)4137934-2 gnd rswk-swf Tropen (DE-588)4060997-2 gnd rswk-swf Tropen (DE-588)4060997-2 g Meeresschnecken (DE-588)4169253-6 s Schale Biologie (DE-588)4052004-3 s Musterbildung (DE-588)4137934-2 s DE-604 Meeresmuscheln (DE-588)4169248-2 s Programm (DE-588)4047394-6 s Schneckenhaus (DE-588)4370039-1 s Computersimulation (DE-588)4148259-1 s Meerestiere (DE-588)4038330-1 s Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 9783662052938 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 9783662052921 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 9783540440109 https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-662-05291-4 Verlag URL des Eerstveröffentlichers Volltext |
