Zusammenfassung: | This volume consists of fourteen essays in honor of Daniel Devereux on the themes of love, friendship, and wisdom in Plato, Aristotle, and the Epicureans. Philia (friendship) and eros (love) are topics of major philosophical interest in ancient Greek philosophy. They are also topics of growing interest and importance in contemporary philosophy, much of which is inspired by ancient discussions. Philosophy is itself, of course, a special sort of love, viz. the love of wisdom. Loving in the right way is very closely connected to doing philosophy, cultivating wisdom, and living well. The first nine essays run the gamut of Plato's philosophical career. They include discussions of the ›Alcibiades‹, ›Euthydemus‹, ›Gorgias‹, ›Phaedo‹, ›Phaedrus‹, and ›Symposium‹. The next four essays turn to Aristotle and include treatments of the ›Nicomachean Ethics‹ and ›Politics‹ as well as the lesser-known works ›Protrepticus‹ and ›Magna Moralia‹. The volume ends with friendship in the Epicureans. As a whole, the volume brings out the centrality of love and friendship for the conception of the philosophical life held by the ancients. The book should appeal to anyone interested in these works or in the topics of love, friendship, or wisdom |

Nov 2020) This volume consists of fourteen essays in honor of Daniel Devereux on the themes of love, friendship, and wisdom in Plato, Aristotle, and the Epicureans. The book should appeal to anyone interested in these works or in the topics of love, friendship, or wisdom In English Aristoteles v384-v322 (DE-588)118650130 gnd rswk-swf Plato v427-v347 (DE-588)118594893 gnd rswk-swf Ideengeschichte gnd rswk-swf Ancient Greek Philosophy Aristotle Epicureans Plato LITERARY CRITICISM / Ancient & Classical bisacsh Freundschaft (DE-588)4018480-8 gnd rswk-swf Weisheit (DE-588)4065203-8 gnd rswk-swf Epikureer (DE-588)4152511-5 gnd rswk-swf Liebe (DE-588)4035646-2 gnd rswk-swf Griechenland Altertum (DE-588)4093976-5 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4016928-5 Festschrift gnd-content Plato v427-v347 (DE-588)118594893 p Aristoteles v384-v322 (DE-588)118650130 p Epikureer (DE-588)4152511-5 s Weisheit (DE-588)4065203-8 s Liebe (DE-588)4035646-2 s Freundschaft (DE-588)4018480-8 s DE-604 Griechenland Altertum (DE-588)4093976-5 g Ideengeschichte z Andrew, Beer ctb Doug, Reed ctb Edith Gwendolyn, Nally ctb Evan, Keeling ctb Gail, Fine ctb Georgia, Sermamoglou-Soulmaidi ctb James, Doyle ctb Jenny, Strauss Clay ctb Keeling, Evan Robert edt Mary Louise, Gill ctb Michael, Ferejohn ctb Michael, Papazian ctb Pierre, Pellegrin ctb Robert, Bolton ctb Sermamoglou-Soulmaidi, Georgia edt T.
