Zusammenfassung: | Was it mere encyclopedism that motivated Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī (d.1210), one of the most influential Islamic theologians of the twelfth century, to theorize on astral magic - or was there a deeper purpose? One of his earliest works was The Hidden Secret ('al-Sirr al-Maktūm'), a magisterial study of the 'craft' which harnessed spiritual discipline and natural philosophy to establish noetic connection with the celestial souls to work wonders here on earth. The initiate's preceptor is a personal celestial spirit, 'the perfect nature' which represents the ontological origin of his soul. This volume will be the first study of The Hidden Secret and its theory of astral magic, which synthesized the naturalistic account of prophethood constructed by Avicenna (d.1037), with the perfect nature doctrine as conceived by Abū'l-Barakāt (d.1165). Shedding light on one of the most complex thinkers of the post-Avicennan period, it will show how al-Rāzī's early theorizing on the craft contributed to his formulation of prophethood with which his career culminated. Representing the nexus between philosophy, theology and magic, it will be of interest to all those interested in Islamic intellectual history and occultism |

Representing the nexus between philosophy, theology and magic, it will be of interest to all those interested in Islamic intellectual history and occultism Faḫr-ad-Dīn ar-Rāzī, Muḥammad Ibn-ʿUmar 1149-1210 (DE-588)118749390 gnd rswk-swf Faḫr-ad-Dīn ar-Rāzī, Muḥammad Ibn-ʿUmar 1149-1210 as-Sirr al-maktūm fī muḫāṭabat al-nuǧūm (DE-588)1256735655 gnd rswk-swf Avicenna 980-1037 (DE-588)118505254 gnd rswk-swf Magie Prophetentum Sabians Sabier Soteriologie magic prophethood soteriology PHILOSOPHY / Religious bisacsh Psychologie (DE-588)4047704-6 gnd rswk-swf Soteriologie (DE-588)4077530-6 gnd rswk-swf Prophet (DE-588)4175942-4 gnd rswk-swf Erkenntnistheorie (DE-588)4070914-0 gnd rswk-swf Naturphilosophie (DE-588)4041408-5 gnd rswk-swf Magie (DE-588)4036966-3 gnd rswk-swf Rezeption (DE-588)4049716-1 gnd rswk-swf Okkultismus (DE-588)4043421-7 gnd rswk-swf Talisman (DE-588)4184384-8 gnd rswk-swf Islamische Philosophie (DE-588)4137531-2 gnd rswk-swf Elkesaiten (DE-588)4152015-4 gnd rswk-swf Astrologie (DE-588)4003305-3 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4113937-9 Hochschulschrift gnd-content Faḫr-ad-Dīn ar-Rāzī, Muḥammad Ibn-ʿUmar 1149-1210 (DE-588)118749390 p Astrologie (DE-588)4003305-3 s Magie (DE-588)4036966-3 s Naturphilosophie (DE-588)4041408-5 s Islamische Philosophie (DE-588)4137531-2 s DE-604 Faḫr-ad-Dīn ar-Rāzī, Muḥammad Ibn-ʿUmar 1149-1210 as-Sirr al-maktūm fī muḫāṭabat al-nuǧūm (DE-588)1256735655 u Elkesaiten (DE-588)4152015-4 s Okkultismus (DE-588)4043421-7 s Talisman (DE-588)4184384-8 s Erkenntnistheorie (DE-588)4070914-0 s Prophet (DE-588)4175942-4 s Soteriologie (DE-588)4077530-6 s Avicenna 980-1037 (DE-588)118505254 p Psychologie (DE-588)4047704-6 s Rezeption (DE-588)4049716-1 s Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-3-11-064457-9 Studies in the history and culture of the Middle East volume 35 (DE-604)BV042781660 35 https://doi.org/10.1515/9783110648096 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
