505 | 8 | |a Irish women flourished in the publishing world at the turn of the twentieth century, and a number of the most popular and prolific of these authors chose to live and work in Britain. As expatriates, these women occupied a complex cultural space between Ireland and Britain from which they were able to observe the rapidly altering political landscape in their homeland and, in particular, the debates that concerned them as women. This book examines the lives and literature of six Irish novelists - Emily Lawless, L. T. Meade, George Egerton, Katherine Cecil Thurston, M. E. Francis and Katharine Tynan - who lived and worked in Britain between the years 1890 and 1916, between them producing nearly 500 published works. Drawing on a range of their novels, this study explores their participation in the prevailing debates of the era: the Irish Question and the Woman Question. This book was the winner of the 2013 Peter Lang Young Scholars Competition in Irish Studies | |

This book was the winner of the 2013 Peter Lang Young Scholars Competition in Irish Studies «The strengths of "Power to Observe" lie in the author's meticulous research and thorough command of her subject matter. ... [This] is an important work that offers fresh perspectives on the lives and works of Irish women writers who forged professional careers in Britain between 1890 and 1916.» (Janis Dawson, English Literature in Transition, 59/2016) Geschichte 1890-1916 gnd rswk-swf Frauenroman (DE-588)4134195-8 gnd rswk-swf Frauenemanzipation (DE-588)4018218-6 gnd rswk-swf Irische Frage Motiv (DE-588)4734954-2 gnd rswk-swf Frauenliteratur (DE-588)4113622-6 gnd rswk-swf Frauenemanzipation Motiv (DE-588)4113619-6 gnd rswk-swf Exil (DE-588)4015959-0 gnd rswk-swf Irische Frage (DE-588)4162415-4 gnd rswk-swf Irin (DE-588)4306662-8 gnd rswk-swf Schriftstellerin (DE-588)4053311-6 gnd rswk-swf Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf Irland (DE-588)4027667-3 gnd rswk-swf Irland (DE-588)4027667-3 g Frauenliteratur (DE-588)4113622-6 s Exil (DE-588)4015959-0 s Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g Irische Frage (DE-588)4162415-4 s Frauenemanzipation (DE-588)4018218-6 s Geschichte 1890-1916 z DE-604 Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 s Frauenroman (DE-588)4134195-8 s Irische Frage Motiv (DE-588)4734954-2 s Frauenemanzipation Motiv (DE-588)4113619-6 s Schriftstellerin (DE-588)4053311-6 s Irin (DE-588)4306662-8 s Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 9783034318372 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 9783035397314 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 9783035397321 https://www.peterlang.com/view/product/46914?format=EPDF Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
