Zusammenfassung: | While in the late 1970s many Americans dismissed the cultural potential of the Bronx by claiming that "The Bronx is burning," this study challenges that assumption. This first-ever study on The Bronx in American popular culture shows how a wide variety of cultural representations engaged in a complex dialogue on its past, present, and future. Sina Nitzsche argues that popular culture functioned as a poetic resurrection of The Bronx, an artistic and imaginative rebirth, which preceded, promoted, and facilitated the spatial revival of the borough. This poetic resurrection inspired the artistic rebirth of distressed communities across the US until today |

Nitzsche Bielefeld transcript-Verlag [2020] © 2020 1 Online Ressource (220 Seiten) txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Cultural studies volume 53 While in the late 1970s many Americans dismissed the cultural potential of the Bronx by claiming that "The Bronx is burning," this study challenges that assumption. This poetic resurrection inspired the artistic rebirth of distressed communities across the US until today Geschichte gnd rswk-swf 20th Century American Studies Cultural Studies Culture Film Hip-Hop New York City Popular Culture The Bronx SOCIAL SCIENCE / Popular Culture bisacsh Film (DE-588)4017102-4 gnd rswk-swf Künste (DE-588)4033422-3 gnd rswk-swf New York- Bronx Motiv (DE-588)7596274-3 gnd rswk-swf Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 gnd rswk-swf Hip-Hop (DE-588)4303517-6 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf New York- Bronx (DE-588)4101160-0 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4113937-9 Hochschulschrift gnd-content USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 s Künste (DE-588)4033422-3 s New York- Bronx (DE-588)4101160-0 g Film (DE-588)4017102-4 s Hip-Hop (DE-588)4303517-6 s New York- Bronx Motiv (DE-588)7596274-3 s Geschichte z DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-3-8376-5311-3 Cultural studies volume 53 (DE-604)BV043511562 53 https://doi.org/10.14361/9783839453117 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
