Zusammenfassung: | Animal spectacles are vital to a holistic appreciation of Spanish culture. In Transoceanic Animals as Spectacle in Early Modern Spain, Beusterien christens five previously unnamed animals, each of whom was a protagonist in a spectacle: Abada, the rhinoceros; Hawa'i, the elephant; Fuleco, the armadillo; Jarama, the bull; and Maghreb, the lion. In presenting and analyzing their stories, Beusterien enriches our understanding of the role of animals in the development of commercial theater in Spain and the modern bullfight. He also contributes to growing scholarly conversations on the importance of Spain in the history of science by examining how animal spectacles had profound repercussions on the emergence of the modern zoo and natural history museum. Combining scholarly content analysis and pedagogical sagacity, the book has a broad appeal for scholars of the early modern Spanish empire, animal studies scholars, and secondary and post-secondary instructors looking for engaging exercises and information for their Spanish language, culture, and history students |

Combining scholarly content analysis and pedagogical sagacity, the book has a broad appeal for scholars of the early modern Spanish empire, animal studies scholars, and secondary and post-secondary instructors looking for engaging exercises and information for their Spanish language, culture, and history students Geschichte 1550-1650 gnd rswk-swf Animals and civilization Spain Animals in the performing arts Spain History Human-animal relationships in the performing arts Spain History Tiere Motiv (DE-588)4185464-0 gnd rswk-swf Löwe (DE-588)4140572-9 gnd rswk-swf Stier (DE-588)4183302-8 gnd rswk-swf Rolle (DE-588)4130478-0 gnd rswk-swf Elefanten (DE-588)4140579-1 gnd rswk-swf Tiere (DE-588)4060087-7 gnd rswk-swf Aufführung (DE-588)4143388-9 gnd rswk-swf Kugelassel (DE-588)4208399-0 gnd rswk-swf Theater (DE-588)4059702-7 gnd rswk-swf Spanien (DE-588)4055964-6 gnd rswk-swf Spanien (DE-588)4055964-6 g Theater (DE-588)4059702-7 s Aufführung (DE-588)4143388-9 s Tiere (DE-588)4060087-7 s Rolle (DE-588)4130478-0 s Tiere Motiv (DE-588)4185464-0 s Geschichte 1550-1650 z DE-604 Elefanten (DE-588)4140579-1 s Kugelassel (DE-588)4208399-0 s Löwe (DE-588)4140572-9 s Stier (DE-588)4183302-8 s Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe 978-90-4855-225-2 Connected histories in the early modern world 2 (DE-604)BV047121170 2 Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=032326032&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis |
