Zusammenfassung: | "This collection offers a set of new readings on the history, meanings, and cultural innovations of the grotesque as defined by various current critical theories and practices. Since the grotesque frequently manifests itself as striking incongruities, ingenious hybrids, and creative deformities of nature and culture, it is profoundly implicated in early modern debates on the theological, philosophical, and ethical role of images. This consideration serves as the central focus from which the articles in the collection then move outward along different lines of conceptualization, chronology, cultural relevance, place, and site. They cover a wide spectrum of artistic media, from prints to drawings, from sculptures to gardens, from paintings to stuccos. As they do this, they engage with, and bring together, theoretical perspectives from writers as diverse as Plato and Paleotti, Vitruvius and Vasari, Molanus to Montaigne. Whether travelling a short distance from Nero's Domus Aurea to Raphael's Vatican logge, or across the ocean from Italy to New Spain, this volume goes further than any previous study in defining the historic understanding of grotesque and, in so doing, providing us with a more nuanced resource for our understanding of an art form once viewed as peripheral."-- |

Whether travelling a short distance from Nero's Domus Aurea to Raphael's Vatican logge, or across the ocean from Italy to New Spain, this volume goes further than any previous study in defining the historic understanding of grotesque and, in so doing, providing us with a more nuanced resource for our understanding of an art form once viewed as peripheral."--</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Geschichte 1450-1700</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Kunst</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4114333-4</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Das Groteske</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4134841-2</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Ästhetik</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4000626-8</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Aesthetics, Renaissance</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Art, Renaissance</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Grotesque</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Grotesque in art</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Grotesque in architecture</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Grotesque in literature</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Esthétique de la Renaissance</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Art de la Renaissance</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Grotesque</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Grotesque dans l'art</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Grotesque en architecture</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Grotesque dans la littérature</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Aesthetics, Renaissance</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Art, Renaissance</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Grotesque</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Grotesque in architecture</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Grotesque in art</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Grotesque in literature</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Conference papers and proceedings</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="0">(DE-588)1071861417</subfield><subfield code="a">Konferenzschrift</subfield><subfield code="y">22.03.2018-24.03.2018</subfield><subfield code="z">New Orleans, La.</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd-content</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4143413-4</subfield><subfield code="a">Aufsatzsammlung</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd-content</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Das Groteske</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4134841-2</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="1"><subfield code="a">Kunst</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4114333-4</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Ästhetik</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4000626-8</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="3"><subfield code="a">Geschichte 1450-1700</subfield><subfield code="A">z</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="5">DE-604</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Acciarino, Damiano</subfield><subfield code="d">1986-</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)1076043569</subfield><subfield code="4">edt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Erscheint auch als</subfield><subfield code="n">Online-Ausgabe, PDF</subfield><subfield code="z">978-0-7727-2193-8</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Publications of the Centre for Reformation and Renaissance Studies. Essays and studies 43 Einführung (S. 49): "... the present volume, which gathers contributions from the conference sessions "Between Allegory and Natural Philosophy: New Perspectives on Renaissance Grotesques" held at the annual meetings of the Renaissance Society of America (New Orleans, 22–24 March 2018)..." "This collection offers a set of new readings on the history, meanings, and cultural innovations of the grotesque as defined by various current critical theories and practices. Whether travelling a short distance from Nero's Domus Aurea to Raphael's Vatican logge, or across the ocean from Italy to New Spain, this volume goes further than any previous study in defining the historic understanding of grotesque and, in so doing, providing us with a more nuanced resource for our understanding of an art form once viewed as peripheral."-- Geschichte 1450-1700 gnd rswk-swf Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 gnd rswk-swf Das Groteske (DE-588)4134841-2 gnd rswk-swf Ästhetik (DE-588)4000626-8 gnd rswk-swf Aesthetics, Renaissance Art, Renaissance Grotesque Grotesque in art Grotesque in architecture Grotesque in literature Esthétique de la Renaissance Art de la Renaissance Grotesque dans l'art Grotesque en architecture Grotesque dans la littérature Conference papers and proceedings (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift 22.03.2018-24.03.2018 New Orleans, La. gnd-content (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Das Groteske (DE-588)4134841-2 s Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 s Ästhetik (DE-588)4000626-8 s Geschichte 1450-1700 z DE-604 Acciarino, Damiano 1986- (DE-588)1076043569 edt Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, PDF 978-0-7727-2193-8 Publications of the Centre for Reformation and Renaissance Studies.
