Zusammenfassung:The conference "The Making of the author", held at the University of Sherbrooke, Sherbrooke, Québec from June 13-16, 2006, intends to approach the figure of the author, both from the perspective of literary theory and that of the history of the book. Increasingly, people tend to understand the concept of author as a construction (assisted and supported by all agents in the field, from the reader to the author himself), who ends up producing, as Foucault wrote already in 1969, "some reason to be known as an author." But how exactly does this construction takes place? What effect does it produce in the literary field? Demystifying the paradoxical figure - both ubiquitous and misunderstood - of the author by placing it in the perspective of the history of the book, which designs the world of letters in a systemic way, was the aim of the conference. Theories on the identity of the author (Companion, Heinich), the mythical representation of the author (Barthes, Foucault) and the relationship of the author with the various agents in the book chain are investigated
