Unable to return to his home country due to the political dispute with the Soviet Union, Vali Kayum Xon stayed in Germany until the rest of his life, promoting the independence of Turkestan. During WWII, after his promotion at the University of Berlin, Veli Kayyum Han, an open anti-Bolshevik, was appointed the head of the Turkestan National Unity Committee, which sided with the Nazis and fought against the Allies, hoping to regain Turkestan after the fall of the Soviet Union. The Turkestan National Unity Committee was founded in 1942 and included 112 soldiers and civilians, who were Muslim immigrants from various parts of the Soviet Union. After the war, Veli Kayyum Han lived in Munich and Düsseldorf and kept a low profile. He was allegedly pronounced dead in Uzbekistan to avoid the Soviet revenge on him. According to the later press the KGB tried to assassin him at least twice. This book is his post WWII privately issued publication against the communism, where he still signed himself with the title of the head of the Nazi-backed Turkestan National Unity Committee (Milli Türkistan Birlik Komitesi). | |
