Zusammenfassung: | While most of the more recent influential work on swearing has concentrated on English and other languages from the Global North, looking at forms and functions of swear words, this contribution redirects the necessary focus onto a sociolinguistics of swearing that puts transgressive practices in non-Western languages into the focus. The transdisciplinary volume contains innovative case studies that address swearing and cursing in parts of the world characterized by consequences of colonialism and increasingly debated inequalities. Turning away from more conventional and established methodologies and theoretical approaches, the book envisages to address transgressive linguistic practices, performances and contexts in Africa, Asia, America and Europe –including individuals' creativity, subversive power and agency. Due to its interdisciplinary and non-mainstream focus, this volume is an essential addition to the field of studies |

spelling | Swearing and cursing contexts and practices in a critical linguistic perspective edited by Nico Nassenstein, Anne Storch Berlin ; Boston De Gruyter Mouton 2020 1 Online-Ressource (IX, 335 Seiten) Illustrationen txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Language and social life volume 22 While most of the more recent influential work on swearing has concentrated on English and other languages from the Global North, looking at forms and functions of swear words, this contribution redirects the necessary focus onto a sociolinguistics of swearing that puts transgressive practices in non-Western languages into the focus. Due to its interdisciplinary and non-mainstream focus, this volume is an essential addition to the field of studies Anthropological Linguistics and Linguistic Anthropology Anthropologische Linguistik Postkoloniale Studien Pragmatik Sociolinguistics Soziolinguistik Postcolonial Studies Pragmatics Southern Theory LANGUAGE ARTS & DISCIPLINES / Linguistics / General bisacsh Soziolinguistik (DE-588)4077623-2 gnd rswk-swf Fluch (DE-588)4154672-6 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Fluch (DE-588)4154672-6 s Soziolinguistik (DE-588)4077623-2 s DE-604 Nassenstein, Nico 1985- (DE-588)136172091 edt Storch, Anne 1968- (DE-588)1062726472 edt Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-1-5015-1724-2 Language and social life volume 22 (DE-604)BV045447690 22 https://doi.org/10.1515/9781501511202 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
