The remarkable simplicity of his language and lifestyle, the quiet efficiency of his leadership reflected in the conduct of official business, and the ease and familiarity that his comportment encourages, A reader who is struck by the simplicity of style and clarity of worldview in this text might be reminded of the discipline that the King James Version has taught writers down the ages. But there are other, direct influences evident in Morning by Morning. especially the elite education of the future Emeritus Professor of English, and the professional distinction and traditional Christian culture of his upbringing. There is, in addition, the effect of the African autobiography, perhaps the most faithful representation of the evolution of the educated elite in modern African writing. The form is decisive in influencing the way that modern society perceives its exceptional men and distinguished leaders like Banjo.
