Zusammenfassung: | This volume explores a millennium of multilingual literary exchanges among the peoples of Sicily, the Iberian Peninsula, and North Africa: the Maghrib, or westernmost strongholds of medieval Islam. Beginning in the seventh century, Muslim expansion into the western Mediterranean initiated a new phase in the layering of heterogeneous peoples and languages in this perennial contact zone: Arabs and Berbers, Christians and Jews, Sunni and Shii'a Muslims, Greeks and Latins all shaped shared and contested identities, hybrid genealogies of knowledge, and fragile but vital political alliances. Waves of migration and the movement of scholars and poets transmitted and expanded canonical and convergent literary forms while facilitating the rise of new vernaculars and the adoption of "foreign" cultural practices and themes. These essays excavate the complexities of the literary artefacts produced in these times of turmoil, offering new perspectives on the intellectual networks and traditions that proved instrumental in overcoming the often traumatic transitions among political and/or religious regimes |

Apr 2020) This volume explores a millennium of multilingual literary exchanges among the peoples of Sicily, the Iberian Peninsula, and North Africa: the Maghrib, or westernmost strongholds of medieval Islam. These essays excavate the complexities of the literary artefacts produced in these times of turmoil, offering new perspectives on the intellectual networks and traditions that proved instrumental in overcoming the often traumatic transitions among political and/or religious regimes Geschichte 1000-1400 gnd rswk-swf History Islamicate world Maghrib cultural exchange literary cultures medieval globe HISTORY / Medieval bisacsh Multilingualism and literature Geschichtsschreibung (DE-588)4020531-9 gnd rswk-swf Kulturaustausch (DE-588)4165964-8 gnd rswk-swf Maghreb (DE-588)4036963-8 gnd rswk-swf al- Andalus (DE-588)4536234-8 gnd rswk-swf Sizilien (DE-588)4055193-3 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift 2016 Barcelona gnd-content Sizilien (DE-588)4055193-3 g Maghreb (DE-588)4036963-8 g al- Andalus (DE-588)4536234-8 g Kulturaustausch (DE-588)4165964-8 s Geschichtsschreibung (DE-588)4020531-9 s Geschichte 1000-1400 z 2\p DE-604 Carpentieri, Nicola (DE-588)1209690195 edt Symes, Carol 1966- (DE-588)133762084 edt https://doi.org/10.1515/9781641893862 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
