SUMMARY Based on which facts is it possible to decide if anybody is eccentric or outsider in a certain time? Based on the conscious external difference, behaviour or attitudes or come this dissimilarity into being for internal causes? And is this eccentricity and outsidership visible at first sight? The presented volume of the Supplement of the South Bohemian Historic Anthology is looking for the answers to these questions. In the long time period of one hundred and fifty years, its authors tried to show on the example of the personalities living in the Czech and Centraleuropean cultural area that the causes of dissimilarity are vari ous, also unconscious and they need not have anything in common with the excentrism or outsidership from the present point of view. The first circle is represented by the personalities who, at first sight, did not deviate from the majority of society, but their political, philo sophic or religious opinions were different. Jiří Štaif tried in his arti cle, based on the comparison of Leopold Ranke and the fictive figure of Benedikt Schauberk, to describe two forms of political thinking in view of the situation in 1848. The next boundary pole of thinking of an individual - particularly the language teacher František Jan Jezbera ֊ concerning the civic society which came into being after 1848, first of all the interest in its direction to Slavophilism which was appre ciated also by the tsar, follows from the text of Martin Gáži. The significant Eastern orientation, this time not only political, but also the religious one which was very unusual
at that time, determined the life path of the next of the presented personalities - Athos monk origi nating from a burgher family from Kutná Hora, the philanthropist and vegetarian Sáva Chilandarece, to whom Marie Ryantová devoted her attention. Bohumil Jiroušek tries to characterize the differences and innovating way of thinking having appeared at the end of the 19th cen tury in his explanation to the interpretation of the Czech past from the viewpoint of the Christian-socialistic journalist Tomáš Josef Jiroušek. Leoš Nikrmajer and Jiří Petráš prove the fact that the radical form of the left-wing thinking could have become the cradle of the desire for a completely new, in the traditional sense of word excentric life, 275
e.g. on the example ofa varied story ofthe native from České Budějovice, communist, tramp and Interbrigadist Leopold Hofman. The dissimilarity, irrespective if it is a dissimilarity in the way of thinking, scientific or character dissimilarity, comes into being often knowingly; also the place of origin or the personalities whom the per son met in the childhood or in the stage of early adulthood participate in it frequently to a considerable extent. Hana Kábová proves this fact convincingly in her text concerning the possible causes of the creation of historic-homeland-geographic work of Josef Dobiáš. Jan Šimánek tries to show in the comparative study about the fate of three men of the Vaclik family from Doudleby region that the same origin is a limit ing factor but the resulting way through life is determined first of all by the decisions of the individual. Zuzana Duchková tries to show the determination by the family and belief, but also by the own decision to live a different life, also in the partnership bond, in her essay about the German speaking painter Bedřich Feigl. Also Josef Chwała in the text of Jitka Rauchová, a deeply believing folk carver from Prachatice comes also from the Czech-German environment; his dissimilarity con sisted in his viewpoint of fine artist, life in reclusion as well as religious visions; in spite of this, he probably did not realize his singularity. This singularity, however, need not have been visible at first sight; Václav Grubhoffer shows this in his text on the example of an important vi rologist and immunologist, son of Russian
migrants, but also a talented writer, traveller and art expert Dimitrij Slonim. A specific chapter in excentricity and outsidership is represented by the artists trying deliberately to distinguish themself from the tradi tional procedures and to make a step forwards in the art development through their viewing of reality. Many of them lived a very sober to boring life in privacy, however, their creation provoked the attention of majority. Miriam Hasíková depicts new ways in the dance art searched by the dancer and choreographer Josef Škoda, Jan Blüml intermedia ted to the reader the beginnings of the creation of the popular music composer Bohuslav Ondráček, who was, among others, present at the birth of the phenomenon of the Czech pop-music of the 1960s - Golden Kids group. In the same time as Ondráček, also Eda Kriseová, writer and intellectual from the circle of Václav Havel and Ludvík Vaculík, 276
the main figure of one publication of Martina Halamova, entered the Czech cultural scene. Jiří Dvořák and Dalibor Státník expressed the opinion that not only people, but also the countryside may be the cause as well as the car rier of a certain outsidership and excentricity of its inhabitants in their texts devoted to Bozeňsko-region in the long time perspective and to the North-Eastern Slovakia in the time of the so-called “Czechoslovak spring“. 277
