Coming back to the subject of the or ganization and activity of the sea rescue teams, it needs to be stated that the teams followed the rules of the German Asso ciation of the Shipwreck Persons Rescue which was launched in Kiel in 1865. There were over one hundred of the sea rescue stations along the Baltic Sea and the North Sea with each of them being approximately twenty kilometres apart. It allowed them all to co-work, especially when a large number of people was to be rescued. Thanks to the effective work of the co astal rescue teams, a number of five tho usand people were saved (1300 along the Polish coastline) between 1865-1939. In the area of the modern Polish coas tline there were thirty sea rescue stations. Sixteen of them still remain in a pretty good technical condition. Nowadays only one of them, situated in Łeba, can still be operational, the rest of them were handed to the Maritime Offices in the 1970s which then later on passed them to the leasehol ders, mostly for gastronomic purposes. According to the author of the mono graph, the work displays the effort and the 186 actions of the sea rescuers at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and it serves to show the aims of the sea rescue teams, their effectiveness and some people working and some equipment used in the coastline sea rescue system. The
descriptions of the buildings, equi pment and the coastline sea rescue opera tions described in this monograph were created thanks to the documents preserved in both German and Polish archives as well as books and specialist publications. Sea rescue, furtherly and constantly developed, is an important section supporting the crews and helping them when in danger. The equipment has been changing, so have the rescue methods, and the technical de velopment helped to equip the sea rescue station with their own helicopters and re scue ships. It does not mean, however, that the coastline sea rescue has been neglected. On the contrary, in the general rescue ope ration system, BSR (coastline sea rescue stations) are still important. Nowadays, the main equipment of the Polish BSRs are cars and fast hybrid boats type IRB T Nowa days in the Maritime Search And Rescue Service there are eight coastal sea rescue stations, which are in Dziwnowo, Koło brzeg, Darłowo, Ustka, Łeba, Świnoujście, Świbino and Sztutowo. descriptions of the buildings, equi pment and the coastline sea rescue opera tions described in this monograph were created thanks to the documents preserved in both German and Polish archives as well as books and specialist publications. Sea rescue, furtherly and constantly developed, is an important section supporting the crews and helping them when in danger. The equipment has been changing, so have the rescue methods, and the technical de velopment helped to equip the sea rescue station with their own helicopters and re scue ships. It does not mean, however, that the coastline sea rescue has been neglected. On the contrary, in the general rescue ope ration system, BSR (coastline sea rescue stations) are still important. Nowadays, the main equipment of the Polish BSRs are cars and fast hybrid boats type IRB T Nowa days in the Maritime Search And Rescue Service there are eight coastal sea rescue stations, which are in Dziwnowo, Koło brzeg, Darłowo, Ustka, Łeba, Świnoujście, Świbino and Sztutowo.
