Zusammenfassung: | ""Despite the growing importance of economics in our lives, literary scholars have long been reluctant to consider economic issues as they examine key texts. This volume seeks to fill one of these conspicuous gaps in the critical literature by focusing on various connections between science fiction and economics, with some attention to related fields such as politics and government. Its seventeen contributors include five award-winning scholars, five science fiction writers, and a widely published economist. Three topics are covered: what noted science fiction writers like Robert A. Heinlein, Frank Herbert, and Kim Stanley Robinson have had to say about our economic and political future; how the competitive and ever-changing publishing marketplace has affected the growth and development of science fiction from the nineteenth century to today; and how the scholars who examine science fiction have themselves been influenced by the economics of academia. Although the essays focus primarily on American science fiction, the traditions of Russian and Chinese science fiction are also examined. A comprehensive bibliography of works related to science fiction and economics will assist other readers and critics who are interested in this subject."-Provided by publisher"-- |

spelling | Science fiction and the dismal science essays on economics in and of the genre edited by Gary Westfahl, Gregory Benford, Howard V. Hendrix, and Jonathan Alexander Jefferson, North Carolina McFarland & Company, Inc., Publishers [2020] © 2020 vii, 290 Seiten 23 cm txt rdacontent n rdamedia nc rdacarrier ""Despite the growing importance of economics in our lives, literary scholars have long been reluctant to consider economic issues as they examine key texts. A comprehensive bibliography of works related to science fiction and economics will assist other readers and critics who are interested in this subject."-Provided by publisher"-- Geschichte gnd rswk-swf Buchproduktion (DE-588)4146827-2 gnd rswk-swf Science-Fiction-Literatur (DE-588)4054021-2 gnd rswk-swf Wirtschaft Motiv (DE-588)4190031-5 gnd rswk-swf Wirtschaft (DE-588)4066399-1 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf China (DE-588)4009937-4 gnd rswk-swf Russland (DE-588)4076899-5 gnd rswk-swf Science fiction, American / History and criticism Economics in literature Economics and literature Publishers and publishing / United States / History Books and reading / United States / History Book and reading / United States / History Books and reading Publishers and publishing Science fiction, American United States Criticism, interpretation, etc History (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Science-Fiction-Literatur (DE-588)4054021-2 s Wirtschaft Motiv (DE-588)4190031-5 s Geschichte z DE-604 Buchproduktion (DE-588)4146827-2 s Wirtschaft (DE-588)4066399-1 s USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Russland (DE-588)4076899-5 g China (DE-588)4009937-4 g Westfahl, Gary 1951- (DE-588)1047767120 edt Benford, Gregory 1941- (DE-588)121630862 edt Hendrix, Howard V. 1959- (DE-588)1158079273 edt Alexander, Jonathan 1967- (DE-588)1035021080 edt Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe 978-1-4766-3756-3 Digitalisierung UB Regensburg - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=032071666&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis |
