Zusammenfassung: | "The camera," said Orson Welles, "is a medium via which messages reach us from another world." It was the camera and the circumstances of the Second World War that first brought together Henry Moore (1898-1986) and Bill Brandt (1904-1983). During the Blitz, both artists produced images depicting civilians sheltering in the London Underground. These "shelter pictures" were circulated to millions via popular magazines and today rank as iconic works of their time. This book begins with these wartime works and examines the artists' intersecting paths in the postwar period. Key themes include war, industry, and the coal mine; landscape and Britain's great megalithic sites; found objects; and the human body. Special photographic reproduction captures the materiality of the print as a three-dimensional object rather than a flat, disembodied image on the page |

It was the camera and the circumstances of the Second World War that first brought together Henry Moore (1898-1986) and Bill Brandt (1904-1983). Special photographic reproduction captures the materiality of the print as a three-dimensional object rather than a flat, disembodied image on the page Brandt, Bill 1904-1983 (DE-588)119006235 gnd rswk-swf Moore, Henry 1898-1986 (DE-588)118583875 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1941-1944 gnd rswk-swf Notunterkunft (DE-588)4239995-6 gnd rswk-swf Fotografie (DE-588)4045895-7 gnd rswk-swf Zeichnung (DE-588)4127900-1 gnd rswk-swf London Motiv (DE-588)4200610-7 gnd rswk-swf Plastik (DE-588)4046277-8 gnd rswk-swf Brandt, Bill / Friends and associates / Exhibitions Moore, Henry / 1898-1986 / Friends and associates / Exhibitions Moore, Henry / 1898-1986 / Criticism and interpretation Moore, Henry / 1898-1986 / Themes, motives Art and photography / Exhibitions Photography, Artistic / Exhibitions Prints, English / 20th century / Exhibitions Sculpture / Exhibitions Brandt, Bill Moore, Henry / 1898-1986 Themes, motives Criticism, interpretation, etc Exhibition catalogs (DE-588)4135467-9 Ausstellungskatalog Hepworth Wakefield 07.02.2020-03.05.2020 Wakefield gnd-content (DE-588)4135467-9 Ausstellungskatalog Yale Center for British Art 25.06.2020-13.09.2020 New Haven, Conn. gnd-content (DE-588)4135467-9 Ausstellungskatalog Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts 22.11.2020-28.02.2021 Norwich gnd-content (DE-588)4145395-5 Bildband gnd-content Brandt, Bill 1904-1983 (DE-588)119006235 p Fotografie (DE-588)4045895-7 s London Motiv (DE-588)4200610-7 s Notunterkunft (DE-588)4239995-6 s Geschichte 1941-1944 z DE-604 Moore, Henry 1898-1986 (DE-588)118583875 p Zeichnung (DE-588)4127900-1 s Plastik (DE-588)4046277-8 s Droth, Martina 1970- (DE-588)1016375247 edt Messier, Paul (DE-588)133159345 edt Brandt, Bill 1904-1983 (DE-588)119006235 pht Moore, Henry 1898-1986 (DE-588)118583875 ctb Yale Center for British Art (DE-588)1056978-9 isb Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts (DE-588)5173474-6 orm Hepworth Wakefield (DE-588)1049199650 orm |
