Bey has also found inspiration in the past, and in two recent series, presented together here for the first time, he addresses African American history explicitly, with renderings both lyrical and immediate. In 2012 Bey created The Birmingham Project, a series of paired portraits memorializing the six children who were victims of the Ku Klux Klan's bombing of Birmingham, Alabama's Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, a site of mass civil rights meetings, and the violent aftermath. Night Coming Tenderly, Black is a group of large-scale black-and-white landscapes made in 2017 in Ohio that reimagine sites where the Underground Railroad once operated. The book is introduced by an essay exploring the series' place within Bey's wider body of work, as well as their relationships to the past, the present, and each other. Additional essays investigate the works' evocations of race, history, time, and place, addressing the particularities of and resonances between two series of photographs that powerfully reimagine the past into the present |

Additional essays investigate the works' evocations of race, history, time, and place, addressing the particularities of and resonances between two series of photographs that powerfully reimagine the past into the present Bey, Dawoud 1953- (DE-588)119418096 gnd rswk-swf USA Motiv (DE-588)4121832-2 gnd rswk-swf Landschaftsfotografie (DE-588)4132170-4 gnd rswk-swf Person of Color Motiv (DE-588)4440429-3 gnd rswk-swf Porträtfotografie (DE-588)4046840-9 gnd rswk-swf Bey, Dawoud / 1953- / Exhibitions Photography, Artistic / Exhibitions Portrait photography / Exhibitions (DE-588)4135467-9 Ausstellungskatalog San Francisco Museum of Modern Art 15.02.2020-25.05.2020 San Francisco, Calif. gnd-content (DE-588)4135467-9 Ausstellungskatalog High Museum of Art 27.06.2020-18.10.2020 Atlanta, Ga. gnd-content (DE-588)4135467-9 Ausstellungskatalog Whitney Museum of American Art 20.11.2020-04.04.2021 New York, NY gnd-content (DE-588)4145395-5 Bildband gnd-content Bey, Dawoud 1953- (DE-588)119418096 p Landschaftsfotografie (DE-588)4132170-4 s USA Motiv (DE-588)4121832-2 s Porträtfotografie (DE-588)4046840-9 s Person of Color Motiv (DE-588)4440429-3 s DE-604 Keller, Corey (DE-588)137001649 wst Sherman, Elisabeth wst Dyson, Torkwase 1973- (DE-588)1238401236 wst Nelson, Steven 1962- (DE-588)1103237349 wst Perry, Imani 1972- (DE-588)1011177773 wst Rankine, Claudia 1963- (DE-588)136937055 wst San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (DE-588)1079865-1 isb The High Museum of Art (DE-588)4036017-9 his Whitney Museum of American Art (DE-588)1019165-3 his V:DE-576;B:DE-14 application/pdf http://swbplus.bsz-bw.de/bsz1690941847inh.htm 20200304153357 Inhaltsverzeichnis |
