THAT LIBERALISM IS NOT COMMITTED
TO SEPARATION, BUT IS COMMITTED TO GRANTING RELIGION A UNIQUE
PROTECTION,
ALBEIT A NARROWER ONE THAN OFTEN ASSUMED. THEY THEN USE ISRAEL AS A
CASE
STUDY FOR THEIR CONCLUSIONS. ALTHOUGH ISRAEL IS DEFINED AS A JEWISH
STATE, ITS
