SAŽETAK Marija Magdalena: od Isusove učenice do filmske bludnice Teološko-kulturalna analiza U knjizi Marija Magdalena: od Isusove učenice do filmske bludnice ana liziran je proces trajne i složene mijene lika Marije iz Magdalé tijekom duge povijesti njegova tumačenja kao i složenost interdisciplinarnih is traživanja koja nisu ograničena samo na njezin lik i ulogu već obuhva ćaju i analizu radova o toj svetici. Ovom se knjigom hrvatskoj javnosti prvi put predstavljaju istraživanja о Mariji iz Magdalé iz područja novozavjetne egzegeze, patristike i legenda te se ujedno donosi prva sustav na analiza uopće lika Marije iz Magdalé u filmskoj umjetnosti. Knjiga je podijeljena u dva dijela kojima prethodi uvod u kojem su predstavljena istraživanja о Mariji Magdaleni u različitim znanstvenim disciplinama i glavne prekretnice u tim istraživanjima. Prvi dio knjige naslovljen je Marija iz Magdalé — od Novoga zavje ta do legendi i sadrži pet poglavlja. U prvom se poglavlju raspravlja о tzv. the Magdalene Question, odnosno, о identitetu Marije iz Magdalé: radi li se о novozavjetnom ženskom liku koji nosi to ime ili se pod tim imenom spaja više različitih novozavjetnih ženskih likova? U drugom po glavlju analizira se lik i uloga Marije iz Magdalé na temelju kanonskih novozavjetnih tekstova: Evanđelju po Marku, Mateju, Luki, Ivanu, Djeli ma apostolskim i 1 Kor 15,3-8. Posebna pozornost posvećena je pitanju koliko se na temelju prikaza njezina lika može saznati о položaju žena u ranim kršćanskim zajednicama. Na primjeru Marije iz Magdalé prika zana je i suvremena rasprava о ženama
kao Isusovim učenicama i apostolicama. Pitanje položaja žena u ranom kršćanstvu i strategije kojima ih se postupno izmještalo iz središta Isusova pokreta i iz aktivnih uloga vodstva i naviještanja, vid su pod kojim se analizira uloga Marije iz Mag dalé u apokrifnim tekstovima te u tekstovima ranokršćanskih crkvenih otaca i pisaca (treće i četvrto poglavlje). U petom se poglavlju analizira ju legende о Mariji iz Magdalé nastale na kršćanskom Zapadu i Istoku i njihove razlike. U cijelom prvom dijelu knjige posebna pozornost pos- 475
Marija Magdalena: od Isusove učenice do filmske bludnice većena je preobrazbama njezina lika i uloga te uzročno-posljedničnim vezama tih preobrazba s promjenama uloga žena u kršc anskim zajedni cama. U drugom dijelu knjige analizira se lik Marije Magdalene u filmskoj umjetnosti od njenih početaka do danas. Analizira se tko je i kako je Ma rija Magdalena portretirana na filmu, u kojim se ulogama pojavljuje, ka ko izgleda i transformira se, u kakvom odnosu stoji s dmgim likovima (posebno s Isusom s kojim najčešće dolazi u tandemu). Također, ras pravlja se podržava li njezin prikaz patrijarhalnu stereotipnu reprezenta ciju žene u umjetnosti kao one koja se veže uz seksualnost i grešnost s obzirom na to da se Hollywood, i općenito filmska industrija, smatraju bedemom tradicionalno muških vrijednosti i patrijarhalnog svjetonazora. Cjelokupono istraživanje upućuje na važnost ne samo analize lika i uloge Marije iz Magdalé već i analize diskursa, odnosno, mehanizama i ciljeva kojima se uspostavlja i ozakonjuje neki diskurs dok se drugi po tiskuju ili zabranjuju. To vrijedi kako za (katoličku) crkvenu tradiciju ko ja time utječe na položaj žena u crkvenim zajednicama tako i za popu larnu kultum koja preko lika Marije Magdalene rješava neka intelektual na, emotivna i egzistencijalna pitanja ili izražava nezadovoljstvo službe nim učenjem Katoličke Crkve о tijelu, seksualnosti ili celibatu. Naime, Marija Magdalena koja je tijekom povijesti pretvorena u lik trajnih preo brazba privlačna je i u suvremeno doba koje više naginje trajnim pro mjenama nego stalnim, fiksiranim
identitetima. Problem je međutim što i te suvremene mijene njezinog lika uglavnom nastavijaju tradiciju koja se temelji na stapanju više novozavjetnih ženskih likova u jedan lik Ma rije Magdalene koji pogoduje rodnim steretipima i ne stavlja u pitanje pa trijarhalne strukture i odnose. Cilj ove knjige je potaknuti veće uvažava nje suvremenih teoloških istraživanja u filmskoj i dmgim granama um jetnosti. To je i razlog zašto su dva dijela knjige koja mogu funkcionira ti kao zasebne, nezavisne cjeline, namjerno stavljene u jedan, zajednič ki, dijaloški okvir. 476
SUAAAAARY Mary Magdalene: From a Follower of Jesus to a Strumpet on the Silver Screen Theological-Cultural Analysis In Mary Magdalene: From a Follower ofJesus to a Strumpet on the Sil ver Screen, the complex changes in perceptions about Mary Magdalene over time, the long history of the interpretation of her persona, together with complex interdisciplinary studies on her image, role and works about her are analyzed. For the first time, studies about Mary of Magda la in New Testament exegesis, patristics, legends and a systematic analy sis of how she has been depicted in films have been made accessible to the Croatian public. The book is divided into two sections, together with an introduc tion presenting research and major breakthroughs about Mary Magda lene in various scientific disciplines. The first section of the book, entitled Maty of Magdah: From the New Testament to Legends, consists of five chapters. The first chapter provides a discussion of the so-called Magdalene question, i.e., whether Mary of Magdala is a specific New Testament woman of that name or whether the name refers to several different New Testament women. In the second chapter, there is an analysis of the persona and role of Mary of Magdala, based on canonical New Testament texts: the Gospels ac cording to Mark, Matthew, Luke and John, the Acts of the Apostles and 1 Corinthians 15.3-8. Particular attention is devoted to the question of how much can be gleaned about the position of women in early Chris tian communities from the depictions of Mary Magdalene. Using Mary of Magdala as an example,
women as Jesus’ followers and apostles are dis cussed from a contemporary viewpoint. The roles of Mary of Magdala in the apocryphal texts and the texts of the early Christian church fathers and writers were analyzed (third, and fourth chapters) from the aspects of the position of women in early Christianity and the strategies through which they were gradually displaced from the center of Jesus’ move ment, active roles of leadership and proclamation. In the fifth chapter, 477

Particular attention throughout the first section is devoted to the transformations of her persona and role, and to the causes and effects associated with changes in women’s roles in Christian communities. In the second section of the book, the persona of Mary Magdelene as portrayed in motion pictures from early films to the present is ana lyzed. As whom and how Mary Magdalene is portrayed in films, the roles she appears in, how she looks and is transformed, and her relationships with other figures (especially Jesus, with whom she most often appears in tandem) are analyzed. Furthermore, whether the manner in which she is depicted reinforces the patriarchal stereotypes of women in art, such as those related to sexuality and impurity, is duscussed, given the fact that Hollywood and the film industry in general are considered bastions of traditonal male values and patriarchal attitudes. Not only is it important to analyze the persona and roles of Mary of Magdala but also the discourse, i.e., the mechanisms and objectives according to which some discourse becomes established and canonized, while some are suppressed or prohibited. This is true both for the (Ca tholic) Church tradition, which thereby affects the position of women in Church communities, and also for popular culture, which resolves some intellectual, emotional and existential questions through the persona of Mary Magdalene or expresses dissatisfaction with
the official teachings of the Catholic Church about the body, sexuality or celibacy. Namely, Mary Magdalene, who was a figure of continuous transformations dur ing the course of history, is attractive in modem times, which are more disposed to constant changes than constant fixed identities. The problem is, however, that such contemporary changes in her persona generally continue a tradition based on an amalgamation of several New Testa ment female figures into the persona of Mary Magdalene, which reinfor ces gender stereotypes and does not question patriarchal structures or relationships. The objective of this book is to foster an appreciation of contemporary theological studies in film and other branches of the arts. Therefore, the two parts of this book, which can function as separate and independent entities, have been intentionally placed within in a sin gle common framework for dialogue. 478
