Zusammenfassung: | "Literature and justice are entwined in many other ways. Ancient Greek tragedies are underpinned by discontinuities between human nomos and a more binding dike. Comedies often depend upon justice: the braggart being exposed and shamed, the overly-witty being humbled, the self-assured being rattled. Love plots, too, mobilize justice - as when a true lover suddenly shines, causing a false one to evaporate. The list goes on. When literature gives voice to the marginalized, when it destabilizes power-structures, when it creates imaginary alternatives, when it denaturalizes norms or exposes oppression, the experiences that go into its writing, reading, and interpreting are framed by justice. Conversely, when literature cooperates with the limiting of others, when it belittles oppression, deepens stigmatization, offers entertaining escapism when more committed agency is called for, its shortcomings are failures in relation to justice"-- |

adam_text | Just Literature In Just Literature, Tzachi Zamir explains the idea of ‘philosophical criticism’ as an innovative approach to interpreting literary texts. Throughout the book, Zamir uses the theme of justice as a case study for this new critical approach. By using ‘philosophical criticism’, Zamir posits that a stronger grasp of the idea of justice can increase one’s understanding of literature, and thus its value. He offers philosophical readings of works by Dante, Shakespeare, Toni Morrison, J. M. Coetzee and Philip Roth to explore the relationship between aesthetic and epistemic values. Zamir argues that, while lit erature and philosophy remain separate entities, examining the two in tandem may inform the study of both. Offering an inventive twist on an established dynamic, this book is essential reading for any student or scholar of literature or philosophy.
