Zusammenfassung: | "The first study of nineteenth-century replication across art, literature, science, social science and humanities. This landmark study explores replication as a nineteenth-century phenomenon. Replication, defined by Victorian artists as subsequent versions of a first version, similar but changed, occurred in art, literature, the press, merchandising, and historical reproductions in architecture and museums. Replication also shaped scientific concepts in biology and geology and scientific practices in laboratories that repeated experiments as part of the scientific method. Fourteen case studies map a range of nineteenth-century replication practices and associations across art, literature, science, media and material culture. While replication stirred imaginations as well as anxieties over the industrialisation that produced a modern mass culture, 'Replication in the Long Nineteenth Century' suggests, nonetheless, that this phenomenon is a forerunner of our contemporary digital culture"--Back cover |

Hughes "The first study of nineteenth-century replication across art, literature, science, social science and humanities. While replication stirred imaginations as well as anxieties over the industrialisation that produced a modern mass culture, 'Replication in the Long Nineteenth Century' suggests, nonetheless, that this phenomenon is a forerunner of our contemporary digital culture"--Back cover Geschichte 1800-1914 gnd rswk-swf Originalität (DE-588)4172836-1 gnd rswk-swf Vervielfältigung (DE-588)4188109-6 gnd rswk-swf Wissenschaft (DE-588)4066562-8 gnd rswk-swf Künste (DE-588)4033422-3 gnd rswk-swf Nachahmung (DE-588)4170992-5 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf Art / Reproduction / History / 19th century / Congresses Art objects / Reproduction / History / 19th century / Congresses Copying / History / 19th century / Congresses Copying processes / History / 19th century / Congresses Technology and the arts / History / 19th century / Congresses Science and the arts / History / 19th century / Congresses Art and literature / History / 19th century / Congresses Literature, Modern / 19th century / History and criticism / Congresses Mass media and culture / History / 19th century Printing / History / 19th century Art objects / Reproduction Art / Reproduction Copying Copying processes Mass media and culture Printing 1800-1899 History Conference papers and proceedings 1\p (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g Künste (DE-588)4033422-3 s Wissenschaft (DE-588)4066562-8 s Vervielfältigung (DE-588)4188109-6 s Nachahmung (DE-588)4170992-5 s Originalität (DE-588)4172836-1 s Geschichte 1800-1914 z DE-604 Codell, Julie F. 1945- (DE-588)138324719 edt Hughes, Linda K. 1948- (DE-588)172147174 edt Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, EPUB 978-1-4744-2487-5 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, PDF 978-1-4744-2486-8 Digitalisierung Deutsches Museum application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=031649024&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
