Zusammenfassung: | This book explores how the Virgin Mary's life is told in hymns, sermons, icons, art, and other media in the Byzantine Empire before AD 1204. A group of international specialists examines material and textual evidence from both Byzantine and Muslim-ruled territories that was intended for a variety of settings and audiences and seeks to explain why Byzantine artisans and writers chose to tell stories about Mary, the Mother of God, in such different ways. Sometimes the variation reflected the theological or narrative purposes of story-tellers; sometimes it expressed their personal spiritual preoccupations. Above all, the variety of aspects that this holy figure assumed in Byzantium reveals her paradoxical theological position as meeting-place and mediator between the divine and created realms. Narrative, whether 'historical', theological, or purely literary, thus played a fundamental role in the development of the Marian cult from Late Antiquity onward |

Narrative, whether 'historical', theological, or purely literary, thus played a fundamental role in the development of the Marian cult from Late Antiquity onward</subfield></datafield><datafield Cunningham -- The story of an edition : Antoine Wenger and John Geometres' life of the Virgin Mary / Fr. Maximos Constas This book explores how the Virgin Mary's life is told in hymns, sermons, icons, art, and other media in the Byzantine Empire before AD 1204. Narrative, whether 'historical', theological, or purely literary, thus played a fundamental role in the development of the Marian cult from Late Antiquity onward Mary / Blessed Virgin, Saint / Devotion to / Byzantine Empire Mary / Blessed Virgin, Saint / In literature Mary / Blessed Virgin, Saint / Art Geschichte 300-1204 gnd rswk-swf Byzantine literature / History and criticism Art, Byzantine / Themes, motives Marienverehrung (DE-588)4074567-3 gnd rswk-swf Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 gnd rswk-swf Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 gnd rswk-swf Mariendarstellung (DE-588)4074563-6 gnd rswk-swf Byzantine Empire / Religious life and customs Byzantinisches Reich (DE-588)4009256-2 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift 08.2015 Oxford gnd-content (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Byzantinische Kunst (DE-2581)TH000005766 gbd Byzantinische Geschichte (DE-2581)TH000005765 gbd Byzantinische Literatur (DE-2581)TH000005767 gbd Marienverehrung (DE-2581)TH000005815 gbd Byzantinisches Reich (DE-588)4009256-2 g Marienverehrung (DE-588)4074567-3 s Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 s Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 s DE-604 Mariendarstellung (DE-588)4074563-6 s Geschichte 300-1204 z Arentzen, Thomas 1976- (DE-588)1130735044 edt Cunningham, Mary B. 1954- (DE-588)1055766596 edt Äquivalent Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 978-1-10870013-9 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe 978-1-108-69679-1 (DE-604)BV046189569 Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=031580768&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=031580768&sequence=000003&line_number=0002&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Register // Gemischte Register |
