652 Authorities and Leaders in Perception of Russian Citizens ( ¡993—2018). Summary Summary This book summarizes the studies of authorities’ and leaders’ images that authors have started in 1993 and continue today. This unique project as long as 25 years enabled to collect a huge volume of empiric data about the state of political mentality of Russian society. The book tackles in detail political perception in the period of Yeltsin’s rule (1991-2000), in the first two Putin’s republics(2000֊2008), in Medvedev’s period (2008-2012) and in the third Presidency of Putin (2012-2018). In each stage the book analyses the context and the main tendencies of perception. These data have value in itself for political scientists who study post-Soviet Russia. But the authors do not restrict themselves to description of authorities’ and leaders’ images in citizens’ mentality. They search for the logic of their transformation during a quarter of a century. The results of this study helped in a new way to formulate a number of complicated issues that are discussed in contemporary political theory, such as: a question of a character and perspectives of democratic transition in Russia, a problem of overcoming a value cleavage in post-Soviet society and many other important issues. A quarter of a century of an included observation permitted authors to offer their own interpretation of a theory of political perception, to test original methodology of analysis of political mentality and to show the possible vectors of its’ further development. This study contributed to the formation of several
generations of young political psychologists and a science school of the Chair of sociology and psychology of politics at the Department of Political Science of Lomonosov Moscow State University.
