CONCLUSION This book begins with an outline of early Albanian writings, which we have inherited from our classic writers of old literature: Pal Engjëlli, Gjori Buzuku, Pjetër Budí, Frang Barditi, Pjetër Bogdani, Gjon Nikolle Kazazı etc. Taking into consideration these early writings, along with the first Albanian schools, we can say that in this regard - Albanians have not remained behind other peoples of the Balkans. An important place in the book was given to the efforts to better illuminate the opening and functioning of schools and education in Albanian language in the prefecture of Prizren for more than five decades (1889-1944). With his studies, academic Jashar Regjepagiqi, has given a valuable contribution in the field of studying the activities of the first school of Prizren in Albanian Language. The monograph of prof dr Musa Kraja, Matí Logoreci - life and works, as well as scholarly articles of other scholars: Halim Shpuza, Rrok Zojzi, prof dr. Murat Geci, prof. Gazmend Shpuza, mr. Marjan Pernkaj and others wrote on the values of the first teacher in Albanian language school of Prizren, Mati Logoreci, as well as for his rich educational work. After a continuous engagement, in the Kosovo State Archive - The Microfilm Fund, we have been able to find important archive materials about the first Albanian school of Prizren, we found a total of 81 microfilms, which will be published now for the first time. And like this we have been able to prove the regular operation of this educational institution of special importance in Prizren. These pedagogical-didactic
documents are of different kinds: the list of students names with their grades by classes and years of study, separately for boys primary school and girls primary school. These lists include the teaching subjects, in accordance with students classes. An important place in these documents occupies the register of the educational and technical personnel of the school, teaching schedule and a series of other documents that have been reviewed in details in the book. One part of the second chapter is dedicated to the deteriorated relations between the teacher Mati Logoreci and the representatives of Austro-Hungarian consulate and the local government of Ottoman Empire in Prizren. As a result of these deteriorated relations, teacher Mati Logoreci was dismissed for a certain period of time. All this had happened at the time when the patriotic clerics: Pashk Trokshi, Andrea Logoreci, Ndue Bytyçi, etc., were withdrawn from the leadership of Fparchy of Skopje and catholic Church of Prizren, and were sent to serve in other countries, and they were substituted by Croatian clerics. Their aim was for the lessons in the Albanian school of Prizren to be taught in Serbo-Croatian language and so that they can use their teachers to teach in this language. The book analyzes in detail the reactions and protests of the head teacher Mati Logoreci and the population of Prizren, who have done this in order to protect 467

Some letters and relations exchanged between Mati Logoreci and Lazer Lumezi with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austro-Hungarv have been published here, as well as a letter from a group of citizens from Prizren. In the school year 1909-1910, two teachers of this school - Anton Lezhja and Serafin Mitroviqi (the latter from Janjeva), wrote the names of their students in the list by using the Manastiri Alphabet. Structured in this way, with secular teachers like: Mati Logoreci and Lazer Lumezi, although the school was situated inside the yard of the Catholic Church in Prizren - it had the attributes of a genuine public school, in accordance with the criteria of that time. The school had a small library for studying, with only 19 books, basic learning tools, like: wall mounted maps, blackboards and geometry tools. The AustroHungarian consulate in Prizren funded, controlled and maintained the school facilities (of boys and girls). However, it can be said that - the microfilm documents were saved due to the obligation that teachers of that school had to submit to the Austro-Hungarian consulate the list of students grades, along with the other records, at the end of each school year. The crucial course of events for the Albanian nation continuously recorded in the book, especially in the first decade of the XX century: 1908 - 1912, which were included in the third chapter. Here we have sufficient data related to the working process of the Congress of Alphabet in Manastir (14-22
November 1908) and for the important decisions that were taken there. The American historian, Edwin Jacques, brings details which were not heard before, that in the special Committee of the Congress of Alphabet, composed of 11 members, led by Gjergj Fishta, a woman also participated ֊ Parashqevi Qiriazi ... not as a committee member, but as its secretary. She was the only female delegate of the Congress of Alphabet in Manastir and the first woman in the history to participate in an all Albanian forum. Also the milestone of Albanian education, the EIbasan Educational Congress, held from 2-8 September 1909, was fully presented. The decisions of this congress had brought concrete results - the establishment of the Normal school ofElbasan, the first professional school for the education of teachers in Albania, which started functioning on 1 December 1909. The Normal School ofElbasan had opened its doors and heart also for the students of Kosovo and all Albanian territories. A huge contribution in sending and financially aiding the Albanian students from Kosovo and other Albanian territories to study in the Normal School of Elbasan, was given by the Albanian intellectuals and patriots: Hasan Prishtina, Nexhip Draga, Bajram Curri, Qazim Vuçiterna etc., who acted in cooperation with the Albanian Club of Skopje. This chapter of the book also brings the moments of joy for the declaration of Independence of Albania in Vlora, on 28 November 1912. However, the joy and happiness were short-lived, because the Serbian and Bulgarian armies on the one side and the Montenegrin army on the
other started their bloody expeditions over the unprotected Albanian population. After the end of First World War (fourth chapter), the schools in Albanian language began opening in the areas under the Austro-Hungarian influence. This part of the book, talks about the activities of these schools that the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy opened in the spirit of Kultus-protectorate in some parts of Kosovo, as 468
CONCLUSION well as about the difficulties in the functioning of this school network, which had a considerable dimension. A considerable space in this book (fifth chapter) is dedicated to the education of Albanian students (in Serbian schools) at the time of the Slavic state called - the Kingdom of Serbs, Croatians and Slovenians. This monarchy, from 1918 1941, with a special decree banned all schools in Albanian language that were previously opened by the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Here we should mention the valuable contribution of scholar dr. Abdulla Vokrri, who, in his book Schools and education in Kosovo between the two world wars (1918 - 1941) , managed to present this dark period that the Albanian people, who were left outside the ethnic borders of their homeland, has gone through. The book also contains some tabular data on the number of students in this period of time, which also included the Albanian students, without mentioning their nationality. In this part of the book, there are cases when the hate of Slavic Monarchy towards the Albanian students was so pronounced, and, in a way, it raised the system of hatred towards non-Slavic students to the state level! Albanian students were not allowed to participate in sports activities because, according to the Slavic government, they could use the power gained in sports activities against the Slavic government and population! The sixth chapter of this book Civil Administration in the Prizren Prefecture 1941-1944 , is slightly narrower. It addresses the period of annexation of Kosovo from fascist Italy and Nazi
Germany 1941-1944. This book also presents the circumstances created by the political and military conjuncture of the time, after the decision taken by the two conquering powers that: Kosovo and other Albanian territories shall join Albania, which was annexed to Italy on 7 April 1939. This decision paved the way for the consolidation of a common educational system, while the leading role in this process was attributed to Ernest Koliqi, Minister of Education and Ali Hashorva, the newly appointed president of the Extraordinary School Mission with its headquarters in Prizren. All these events and developments in regard to Education, happening in Kosova and other Albanian lands have been reflected in details in Chapter seven of the book, Primary Education in the Prizren Prefecture 1941-1944. Some short parts of this indescribable enthusiasm and joy that the population of Kosovo and of other liberated territories had experienced at that time are also presented here. They were looking forward to the opening, for the first time, of public schools and state administration in Albanian language. This is how the head of the Extraordinary School Committee, Ali Hashorva, described this atmosphere of joy: ... Wherever we went they welcomed us with joy and enthusiasm, as if God was descending from the skies ... the population asked us - When is Albania coming, when are the teachers of Albania coming ? ... Great and legendary brave of Skanderbeg wars are here and alive in front of us, mighty and strong, flexible and with an eagle sharp look, which represents intelligence and skill in
itself. The ministry of Education in Tirana, along with the Extraordinary School Mission - had made all administrative, pedagogical and didactic preparations in order for the schools in Kosovo and other Albanian territories to operate under the same programme as the schools in Albania. Although the five-year education was mandatory and had began in Kosovo as well, its implementation had some initial 469

Therefore, in school year 1941-1942, the School Mission, with the approval of the Ministry of Education in Tirana, had planned to pay more attention to the learning of: Albanian language, history, geography, arithmetic and singing. Therefore, the Curriculum of the Albanian school in Kosovo had undergone some small changes, increasing the number of classes for the Albanian language and decreasing the number classes for some other subjects. The Education Inspectorate in the Prefecture of Prizren was the highest body at the prefecture level, and it had 3 didactic directorates: in Prizren, director Ibrahim Fehmiu, who supervised the area of Prizren, district of Suhareka, and Dragash, in Gjakova, director Demush Gjakova, in addition to the villages of Gjakova, he also supervised the area of Rahovec with its villages, and in Kukës (with the villages of the area), director Muharrem Musa. The dates when the primary and secondary school started, as well as the general supervision of the learning process and inspections in schools - were made only for the Didactic Directories of Prizren and Gjakova, but this was not done for the schools of the Didactic Directory of Kukës, because they had their continuity. The establishment of the State Lyceum in Prizren and the Normal School in Gjakova were fully presented, accompanied with archive documents and tabular records on the number of students. It could be noticed therein that the main problem for the proper functioning of
these institutions of secondary education has been the providing of qualified staff for this level of education. The Normal School of Gjakova had with another difficulty in regards to the educational staff, and this was the persecution and arresting of the most qualitative staff of this school. And this had even questioned the functioning of the school. The leadership of the Educational Inspectorate in Prizren was composed of: Beqir Spahiu, education inspector in Prizren, Ibrahim Fehmiu, didactic director in Prizren, Mehmet Gjevori, inspectorate secretary, school principal and teacher, Demush Gjakova, didactic director in Gjakova, Muharrem Musa, didactic director in Kukës and Kolë Margjini, director of“Gjon Buzuku Lyceum in Prizren (supervised by the Ministry). All these officials were coordinated by the head missionary of education in Kosovo, Ali Hashorva and together with the generation of the patriotic teachers - they wrote the brightests pages of the history of schools and education in Albanian territories. With their dedicated work and professional commitment, they left indelible traces in the history of Albanian education in the period 1941 - 1944. This was the greatest contribution that the golden Pleiades of teachers and pedagogues gave to their people. They laid sound foundations of schools and state administration in Albanian language, not only in Kosovo, but also across other Albanian territories. While being aware of the permanent claims of the Serbo-Montenegrin hegemony, without this three-year period (1941 - 1944), the opening and functioning of Albanian
schools after the Second World War would have been questioned. It probably wouldn t even come to this. 470
