Zusammenfassung: | "This book examines and compares the political situations in North Korea and Iran, and the contemporary security challenges posed by their illicit nuclear aspirations. While government officials, including a series of American presidents, strategic policy documents and outside analysts have repeatedly noted that North Korea and Iran occupy a similar challenge, the commonality has largely been left unexplored. This book argues that North Korea and Iran are uniquely common in the world today in their illicit nuclear aspirations in violation of their legal commitments made under the Non-Proliferation Treaty. The work evaluates alternative arguments, some of which sustain that the two states should be grouped together based on other metrics, such as nuclear powers that sponsor terrorist organizations or nuclear states that violate human rights, and find alternative explanations do not hold up to empirical scrutiny. Drawing on newly declassified documents and Iranian and North Korean sources, the book provides a comprehensive and comparative assessment of the two states' social, historical, economic, and domestic political structures and situation to make these determinations. Furthermore, it reviews the nuclear issue stemming from Iran and North Korea and the efforts to constrain these programs. The book concludes with specific policy recommendations that apply diplomatic lessons learned from dealing with Iran to North Korea and vice versa. This book will be of interest to students of nuclear proliferation, international security, foreign policy and International Relations."--Provided by publisher |

This book will be of interest to students of nuclear proliferation, international security, foreign policy and International Relations."--Provided by publisher Nonproliferation (DE-588)4331181-7 gnd rswk-swf Außenpolitik (DE-588)4003846-4 gnd rswk-swf Kernwaffe (DE-588)4003434-3 gnd rswk-swf Iran (DE-588)4027653-3 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf Nordkorea (DE-588)4075468-6 gnd rswk-swf Nuclear nonproliferation / Korea (North) / International cooperation Nuclear nonproliferation / Iran / International cooperation Nuclear weapons / Government policy / Korea (North) Nuclear weapons / Government policy / Iran Security, International Korea (North) / Politics and government / 2011- Iran / Politics and government / 1997- POLITICAL SCIENCE / International Relations / General HISTORY / Middle East / Iran Foreign Policy International Relations International Security Security Studies - Pol & Intl Relns Nuclear nonproliferation / International cooperation Nuclear weapons / Government policy Politics and government Iran Korea (North) Since 1997 Electronic books Nordkorea (DE-588)4075468-6 g Iran (DE-588)4027653-3 g Außenpolitik (DE-588)4003846-4 s Kernwaffe (DE-588)4003434-3 s Nonproliferation (DE-588)4331181-7 s USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g 1\p DE-604 O'Brien McEachern, Jaclyn Sonstige (DE-588)1139920626 oth 9781315100784 9781351587143 http://public.ebookcentral.proquest.com/choice/publicfullrecord.aspx?p=4983406 ProQuest Ebook Central https://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/9781351587143 https://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/9781315100784 Click here to view 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
