Zusammenfassung: | Held in Germany, the 1936 Olympic Games sparked international controversy. Should athletes and nations boycott the games to protest the Nazi regime? More Than Just Games is the history of Canada’s involvement in the 1936 Olympics. It is the story of the Canadian Olympic officials and promoters who were convinced that national unity and pride demanded that Canadian athletes compete in the Olympics without regard for politics. It is the story of those Canadian athletes, mostly young and far more focused on sport thanpolitics, who were eager to make family, friends, and country proud of their efforts on Canada’s behalf. And, finally, it is the story of those Canadians who led an unsuccessful campaign to boycott the Olympics and deny Nazi Germany the propaganda coup of serving as an Olympic host.Written by two noted historians of Canadian Jewish history, Richard Menkis and Harold Troper, More than Just Games brings to life the collision of politics, patriotism, and the passion of sport on the eve of the Second World War |

Jul 2018) Held in Germany, the 1936 Olympic Games sparked international controversy. And, finally, it is the story of those Canadians who led an unsuccessful campaign to boycott the Olympics and deny Nazi Germany the propaganda coup of serving as an Olympic host.Written by two noted historians of Canadian Jewish history, Richard Menkis and Harold Troper, More than Just Games brings to life the collision of politics, patriotism, and the passion of sport on the eve of the Second World War In English Olympische Spiele 11. 1936 Berlin (DE-588)2001155-6 gnd rswk-swf Olympische Spiele 4. 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen (DE-588)2000746-2 gnd rswk-swf Olympic athletes Canada Olympics Participation, Canadian Olympics Political aspects Canada Olympics Social aspects Canada Außenpolitik (DE-588)4003846-4 gnd rswk-swf Nationalsozialismus (DE-588)4041316-0 gnd rswk-swf Kanada (DE-588)4029456-0 gnd rswk-swf Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 gnd rswk-swf Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 g Nationalsozialismus (DE-588)4041316-0 s Olympische Spiele 11. 1936 Berlin (DE-588)2001155-6 f Olympische Spiele 4. 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen (DE-588)2000746-2 f Kanada (DE-588)4029456-0 g Außenpolitik (DE-588)4003846-4 s 1\p DE-604 Troper, Harold aut https://doi.org/10.3138/9781442620513 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
