Zusammenfassung: | This is the first study to bring together all twenty-nine extant copies of the medieval Commentary on the Apocalypse, which was originally written by Spanish monk Beatus of Liébana. John Williams, a renowned expert on the Commentary, shares a lifetime of study and offers new insights on these strikingly illustrated manuscripts. As he shows, the Commentary responded to differing monastic needs within the shifting context of the Middle Ages. Of special interest is a discussion of the recently discovered Geneva copy: one of only three commentaries to be written outside of the Iberian Peninsula, this manuscript shows both close affinities to the Spanish model and fascinating deviations from it in terms of its script and style of illustrations |

Okt 2018) This is the first study to bring together all twenty-nine extant copies of the medieval Commentary on the Apocalypse, which was originally written by Spanish monk Beatus of Liébana. John Williams, a renowned expert on the Commentary, shares a lifetime of study and offers new insights on these strikingly illustrated manuscripts. As he shows, the Commentary responded to differing monastic needs within the shifting context of the Middle Ages. Of special interest is a discussion of the recently discovered Geneva copy: one of only three commentaries to be written outside of the Iberian Peninsula, this manuscript shows both close affinities to the Spanish model and fascinating deviations from it in terms of its script and style of illustrations In English Beatus Liebanensis -798 In apocalypsin commentarius (DE-588)4273765-5 gnd rswk-swf Genfer Beatus (DE-588)1029534705 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 850-1250 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1050 gnd rswk-swf Illuminierte Handschrift (DE-588)4120472-4 gnd rswk-swf Italien Süd (DE-588)4072965-5 gnd rswk-swf Spanien (DE-588)4055964-6 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)4163417-2 Katalog gnd-content Genfer Beatus (DE-588)1029534705 u Italien Süd (DE-588)4072965-5 g Illuminierte Handschrift (DE-588)4120472-4 s Geschichte 1050 z DE-604 Beatus Liebanensis -798 In apocalypsin commentarius (DE-588)4273765-5 u Spanien (DE-588)4055964-6 g Geschichte 850-1250 z Martin, Therese edt https://doi.org/10.1515/9789048530014 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
