Humanistic management and the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management (UN PRME) have set an agenda that a new paradigm is needed to address major societal problems, by making human dignity and social well being as core issues, over and above the mindless pursuit of profits or productivity. This book and a companion volume provide pedagogical material for the common topics in management curriculum, based on theory from a humanistic perspective along with practice oriented examples that can be used as class room exercises or case-studies for discussion. These exercises are practical and have been used by authors in their class rooms around the world. The book is a compilation of these so that what was considered to be on the margin in yesteryears can be made prominent as mainstream as the awareness spreads about the need for a fresh paradigm. This book covers two topics, social entrepreneurship and mindfulness, in two sections. Each section can be adopted independent of the other, as a self-contained topic, with a theoretical chapter explaining the humanistic approach followed by practical exercises. Cases are based on real organizations spread around the world. The section on mindfulness offers techniques that have proven to be helpful in training engaged leaders, by leading them through experiential exercises such as appreciative inquiry and improv for cultivating mindful presence in a group. The authors can provide additional teaching resources and share their experiences with other instructors who adopt this material
