THE CONCLUSION The appearance of the journal „Archival Practice“, as part of the project that carries the same name represented an important novelty in the Bosnian archival theory and practice. Until then, no archives in Bosnia and Herzegovina had ajournai. Activities of archives on professional publishing plan were related to the „Herald of archives and Association of archivists of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is the best way affirmed the archival profession in Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the war and in the postwar period, there have been certain difficulties and delays between issues of this referenced journal. In such state and, according to the archival service of Bosnia and Herzegovina, complex circumstances, the journal „Archival Practice“ was started. It is the result that expressed responsibility and audacity of archivists working in the Archives of Tuzla Canton. They believed that such an undertaking can significantly contribute to rehabilitation of the consequences of war in the archives of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Especially complicated situation was in the field of registry materials, records outside an archive. Therefore, the entire project of „Archival Practice”, including the journal, was more focused on solving problems in this segment of the archival service. This was a case of brave move from a small team of the Archives of Tuzla Canton, headed by the management, with a clear concept and vision related to the project and the journal. Support in this area was obtained from colleagues from other archives of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the countries in the
neighborhood. Publishing of the first issue of the journal „Archival Practice“ in 1998, meant an important step towards achieving the goal to raise the level of knowledge in the area of archival science, especially for its pragmatic function. Papers published in the first issue justified its purpose, as they were linked to basic issues and questions, which were primarily related to the protection records. The same have been classified into four themes: Archival science and archival service, From other magazines, Reviews and Reports. This was also the basic structure of the magazine, which will form the basis of the same from the first to twentieth number. Later issues will introduce the chapter titled „From archival material“. Professional content published in the journal „Archival Practice“ no. 1, provided an important knowledge necessary for archivists employed in registry offices, but also in the archives. The papers helped to better understand relevant issues of archival theory and practice. Content published in the journal is brings closer and creates relationship between registry offices and archives, which gave the possibility of simpler and adequate solutions for accumulated archival problems. It is important to point out that the redaction and editorial team of the journal „Archival Practice“ had a systematic approach in its work, in such a way that the most current and most sensitive issues of archival theory and practice were opened in every issue of the journal. Thus, from the issue to the issue, multiple problems from the field were addressed: the protection
of archival and registry material and its origin, valorization, handling, the importance of accommodation and equipment, 201
and numerous issues related to the influence of information technologies on archival material. Thus, through the issues of the journal „Archival Practice“, the most current issues of archival theory and practice have been presented. That this is an extensive and extremely interesting professional and scientific content is best confirmed by the fact of 904 published papers published in 20 issues of the journal „Archival Practice“. The largest number of published articles, more than 50 percent, refers to the first chapter of Archival science and archival service. This is a chapter that has determined and confirmed the archival character of the journal. In the same way, through various professional and scientific paper, it entered the spheres of archival profession and science. Presented papers significantly contributed to raising the level of knowledge for archival workers, both in the registry offices and in the archives, which significantly strengthened the position of the archival profession in the complex transitional time with which the Bosnian society was burdened. A significant part of professional knowledge are given in the papers reprinted from other journals. They helped bring some of the important issues encountered by the archival services of the countries of the developed world. It was an important link with modem archival knowledge. Chapter „From archival material“ is distinctive in the journal „Archival Practice“. More than 60 papers dealt with numerous events and processes from the past of Bosnia and Herzegovina. They relate to important issues from national
and local history, and are largely based on sources of the first order. This contributes to the development of Bosnian historiography. The chapter “Reviews” presents 122 publications in the field of archival science and historiography. Through their presentation, numerous and diverse archival and historical issues are significantly approximated. In the chapter „Reports“, the same number of scientific, professional and cultural contents presented in the country and abroad were presented through 117 contribuions. All of the above make an important integral parts that are necessary for archival science and historiography, which has influenced the raising of the level of knowledge of archival experts and historians. In the opening and treatment of a significant number of professional and scientific topics and questions, besides Bosnian archival experts and historians, a huge contribution belongs to archivists and other scientists from around 20 European countries. About half of papers of archival provenance published in the journal are a work of respected colleagues from abroad. Their knowledge and experience presented on the pages of the journal „Archival Practice“ is very valuable and gave a special professional and scientific note to the journal. Thanks to the unselfish contribution of colleagues from abroad, the project and journal have international character and significance. If we make a review and analysis of the structure and content of all issues of the journal „Archival Practice“, it is noteworthy that the journal in eveiy consecutive issue became professionally and
scientifically more powerful, more extensive and diverse. This contributed to his good professional and scientific position, not only in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also in the countries of the region. The contents 202
published on the pages of the journal „Archival Practice“ have become the required scientific and professional reading, which significantly influenced the formation of knowledge of archival staff at home and abroad. The scientific, professional and international validity of the journal has been confirmed by admission into two important international databases of C.E.E.O.L. and E.B.S.C.O. It should be noted that few educational conferences such as „Archival Practice“ had such a powerful influence on the development of the archival profession, especially in the segment of education and. raising the level of knowledge of archival staff, which significantly influenced the overall status of archival activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Today, the journal „Archival Practice“ is a respectable professional publication that is recognizable in the world of archival and historical science, both in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in the region. The gratitude for this belongs to those who had a clear vision in the realization of this project, primarily the redaction and editorial team, and especially the authors of numerous contributions, but also all other associates and colleagues who in any way contributed to the duration of this important scientific and professional content and project. It is not only that a 20year period confirms the value of the journal, but it also represents an additional obligation in order to persevere in the task of strengthening and improving it, in order to further promote archival knowledge and archival science. We believe that it will succeed in doing so. 203
