Zusammenfassung: | "[This volume] provides concise overviews of [the] rapidly-growing field [of neurolinguistics], and engages a broad audience with an interest in the neurobiology of language. The chapters do not attempt to provide exhaustive coverage, but rather present discussions of prominent questions posed by given topics. The volume opens with essential methodological chapters: Section I, Methods, covers the key techniques and technologies used to study the neurobiology of language today, with chapters structured along the basic divisions of the field. Section II addresses the neurobiology of language acquisition during healthy development and in response to challenges presented by congenital and acquired conditions. Section III covers the many facets of our articulate brain, or speech-language pathology, and the capacity for language production-written, spoken, and signed. Questions regarding how the brain comprehends meaning, including emotions at word and discourse levels, are addressed in Section IV. Finally, Section V reaches into broader territory, characterizing and contextualizing the neurobiology of language with respect to more fundamental neuroanatomical mechanisms and general cognitive domains." - Buchumschlag "Neurolinguistics is a young and highly interdisciplinary field, with influences from psycholinguistics, psychology, aphasiology, and (cognitive) neuroscience, as well as other fields. Neurolinguistics, like psycholinguistics, covers aspects of language processing; but unlike psycholinguistics, it draws on data from patients with damage to language processing capacities, or the use of modern neuroimaging technologies such as fMRI, TMS, or both. The burgeoning interest in neurolinguistics reflects that an understanding of the neural bases of this data can inform more biologically plausible models of the human capacity for language." - Buchumschlag |

Neurolinguistics is a young and highly interdisciplinary field, with influences from psycholinguistics, psychology, aphasiology, and (cognitive) neuroscience, as well as other fields. Neurolinguistics, like psycholinguistics, covers aspects of language processing; but unlike psycho linguistics, it draws on data from patients with damage to language processing capacities, or the use of modem neuroim aging technologies such as MRI, TMS, or both. The burgeoning interest in neurolin guistics reflects that an understanding of the neural bases of these data can inform more biologically plausible models of the human capacity for language. The Oxford Handbook of Neurolin guistics provides concise overviews of this rapidly growing field, and engages a broad audience with an interest in the neurobiology of language. The chapters do not attempt to provide exhaustive coverage, but rather present discussions of prominent questions posed by given topics. The volume opens with essential methodological chapters: Part I, Methods, covers the key techniques and technolo gies used to study the neurobiology of language today, with chapters stmctured along the basic divisions of the field. Part II addresses the neurobiology of language acquisition during healthy develop ment and in response to challenges presented by congenital and acquired conditions. Part III covers the many facets of our articulate brain, or speechlanguage pathology, and the capacity for language production—written, spoken, and signed. Questions regarding how the brain comprehends meaning, including emotions at word and
discourse levels, are addressed in Part IV. Finally, Part V reaches into broader territory, character izing and contextualizing the neurobiology of language with respect to more fundamental neuroanatomical mecha nisms and general cognitive domains.
Greig I. de Zubicaray is Professor and Associate Dean of Research in the Faculty of Health at Queensland Univer sity of Technology, Brisbane, Australia. His research covers brain mechanisms involved in language and memory and their disorders, neuroimaging method ologies, the aging brain and cognitive decline, and most recently, the emerging field of imaging genetics. Niels O. Schiller is Professor of Psychoand Neurolinguistics and Academic Director of the Leiden University Centre for Linguistics (LUCL). His research interests include syntactic, morpho logical, and phonological processes in language production and reading aloud, as well as articulatory-motor processes during speech production, language processing in neurologically impaired patients, and forensic phonetics. The Oxford Handbooks series is a major initiative in academic publishing. Each volume offers an authoritative and stateof-the-art survey of current thinking and research in a particular subject area. Specially commissioned essays from leading international figures in the disci pline give critical examination of the progress and direction of debates. Oxford Handbooks provide scholars and graduate students with compelling new perspec tives on a wide range of subjects in the humanities and social sciences.

The burgeoning interest in neurolinguistics reflects that an understanding of the neural bases of this data can inform more biologically plausible models of the human capacity for language." - Buchumschlag Neurolinguistics Neurolinguistik (DE-588)4041886-8 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Neurolinguistik (DE-588)4041886-8 s DE-604 De Zubicaray, Greig (DE-588)118666181X edt Schiller, Niels Olaf 1969- (DE-588)173159664 edt Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, updf 978-0-19-067203-4 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, online content 978-0-19-067204-1 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, epub 978-0-19-091486-8 Digitalisierung UB Regensburg - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=030932225&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis Digitalisierung UB Regensburg - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=030932225&sequence=000003&line_number=0002&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Klappentext |
