Seit wann werden Menschen als Opfer von Krieg und Gewalt bezeichnet ֊ und warum? Ein Strand in der Türkei, September 2015: Ein toter Junge liegt im nassen Sand. Das Bild ging um die Weit - Aylan, ertrunken auf der Flucht aus Syrien, galt vielen als Sinnbild für die unschuldigen Opfer des Bürgerkriegs. Solche Zuschreibungen sind nicht selbstverständlich, sie haben eine Geschichte. Die Historikerin Svenja Goltermann zeigt in einer beeindruckenden Studie, wie sich seit der Wende zum 19. Jahrhundert die Wahrnehmung von Krieg und Gewalt veränderte und schrittweise die Figur des passiven Opfers entstand. Im 20. Jahrhundert erfasste diese Figur immer mehr Leidende und Geschädigte, insbesondere seit das psychische Trauma als Verletzung anerkannt wurde. Da der Begriff des Opfers gegenwärtig wieder nega tiv besetzt wird, gilt dieser anregende Essay einem ebenso politischen wie aktuellen Thema. |
